Why not a dedicated thread on sci-fi flicks. ...So here she is...I'm a big fan of sci-fi action dramas...like ex_machina, Interstellar, Prometheus, X-Men: Days of Future Past, etc.

Anywhere, everywhere...@ IMAX, @ home from Blu-rays, DVDs, Netfilx, Vudu, VHS tapes, Laserdiscs...as long as they are Sci-Fi and they can also be scary, and they can also be smart...as they make you think about the universe's future in dimensions never explored before.

Which one(s) do you like...and have you seen it recently or years ago where you were young and still vulnerable and easily influenced by outer space transmissions?
...Like 50-60 years ago, or so...more or less depending of our age today. :b

I saw Ex Machina the day it opened and for me it was one of my two favorites this tear.....Ex Machina and Woman in Gold

'Ex_machina' is a good one. I didn't see it @ the theater, but on Blu-ray.

No. Woman in Gold is a film based on a true story. It and Ex Machina are my two favorites so far this year

LOL. That is quite an auto-correct! Looks like some of the nonsense Apple comes up with on the iPad. If I had a dollar for everytime I scream at Apple for this stuff I could buy a pair of Magico Q7 MKII speakers.

Forbidden Planet remains one of my favorite old science fiction movies. What incredible special effects for its age which even today, serve to surprise me. I remember watching this as a new HD DVD release and marvelling at the fidelity of it despite such age.

Interstellar was absolutely brilliant. The story very well complemented by the score. Clever story too.

Prometheus was highly disappointing for me. I shudder at the thought they're planning a Prometheus 2.

Definitely want to watch 'Ex Machina' and 'Her'.

'Cloud Atlas' was a fantastic movie we will watch again as we have the Blu-Ray and also adds elements of mysticism so it's more than just a sci-fi movie.

There would be a lot to say about SF TV Shows too!

I second :Forbidden Planet". I now have the DVD, but that used to be on TV late at night in the 50s-60s. Another great old SF movie I love is the movie of HG Wells "Shape Of Things To Come". And can't forget, the original "The Thing."

Isn't Forbidden Planet the one where the alien race is known as "the Krell"? Isn't there a rumor that is where Dan D'Agostino was inspired to take the name?

There is indeed and that is the same story I have heard.

And that's where the high-end audio name Krell originated from.

EDIT: I just saw someone who was more advanced (faster internet speed) than I who has low speed and couldn't keep up with more advanced high-tech from a more advanced civilization. ;-)
The Krell's society got extinted.

And if you ask Dan; I think he will tell you that indeed he took the Krell's name from that old classic sci-fi flick (1956).

I enjoyed Prometheus and in 3D it is quite impressive.

And the sequel is not before The Martian.

* Her ... very good mention ... very much liked it too, and as a matter of fact I just revisited her recently.

** Cloud Atlas ...another very good mention ... and another one that I very much liked; I must have seen it four times, @ least.
But Jupiter Ascending wasn't quite the follow-up. It was more like all fireworks from a very good opening that was very promising but without delivering the goods. IMO

I am waiting for somebody to use "Monsters from the ID" to try and explain why some people can hear things that others can't.

For their time I loved Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978), Dark Star (quite a bit before its time in concept).
More modern AI Artificial Intelligence, Solaris (more talking and conceptual than action ), Blade Runner, and a bit of a love/hate for some would be Brazil (this had many complex layers beyond the visual effects and basic plot line that reminded me a lot of the black and white Russian sci-fi films and also a social commentary-analysis reflecting our modern society).

I did think Matrix (1st film) had a great script-language and with a strong concept/artistic design, managed so well to combine many different elements of film making as a whole; technically such as bullet time, martial arts action, visual effects-CGI, strong dialogue-script-etc.
And yeah Forbidden Planet is superb
