That is my current conundrum. I went from the two to the four.

In about two weeks, I will make a report. The biggest difference is the ability to pair with two devices simultaneously.

Now that I am listening to the fourth version of the Sony headphone I think it warrants its' own review.

While my evaluation is not complete, I thought I should bring to your attention. Best Buy and Amazon are offering the Four for $ 278.00!

I included the Juice power pack. I picked. It out of a stocking stuffer bin at Walmart.
The hip dac battery fades faster than the others. Moreover the sound quality declines as the battery nears its end. Additionally the hip-dac does not support bluetooth(trademark).

The latest version of this headphone is a significant improvement in every significant area.
Prettier.
More comfortable
Better noise suppression
Longer battery life with fast recharge
Most important -better sound quality

SONY continues to improve this device without the benefit of a price increase.
Sound.
I just did not have to listen as loud.

When paired wit the ifi hip-dac the xm4 delivers audiophile quality sound. I was able to grade the relative quality of various recordings.
It has excellent bass. My attention was drawn to the instruments rather than the general perception of bass. I noticed a vast improvement in low level resolution.
There was less noise and distortion. The music had a fullness with air around the instruments.
This is a high -end device that requires adjustment for best results.
I found myself listening to most of my favorite recordings.
I think this is an excellent solution for students, travelers, privacy seekers and headphone fans.
While i highly recommend the use of an outboard dac, you will get good results without one. Especially if you need Bluetooth.
It is versatile device. I intend to take advantage of the free trial. Of 360 degree sound.
Black Friday should have some deals. Get yours today.

That is a problem. I do not have access to the three. I can say the three was only marginally better than the two. I find the four is dramatically better than the two. If I get a chance to compare them directly I will let you know.
Addition: Some took took thier exhibits because of the virus.

So while I am not prepared to tell you to dispose of the three and get the four, I can recommend the four unequivocally
as an original purchase.

I of course have no financial interest in the product. I did receive a discount that was readily available to the public as a Black Friday sale at Best Buy. (I hate Best Buy.) i have a second pair of headphones that I do not know what to with. I'll think of something. There are videos on you tube that recommend the upgrade. I personally think it is judgement call you have to make.
A good alternative is to keep three and buy an iFi hip dac.
