Snowden

Saw this the other night. Very good. Oliver Stone does a great job. The other day I saw an interview of the real Snowden with Katie Couric in a hotel room in Moscow. The guy is really interesting.

It was good... it certainly points out the capabilities of the NSA's surveillance program, it's mind blowing.

...Stuff we aren't supposed to know, us the general population. ...In the age of internet and fast global communication, and news information and transportation.

Couple more weeks and a half I'll be watching it on Blu and meanwhile we'll all patiently wait another six weeks, exactly (January 20).

Another interesting thing is that Snowden was granted a 3 year asylum which will expire this year. What will happen to him? In the interview there was mention of an Obama pardon before he leaves office. But why would he get a pardon at this time and circumstance?

Knowing and tracking 3 billion emails in 1 country is mind blowing indeed.
And when the whole thing became news 3 years ago, I would read that Snowden was a contractor for their surveillance systems but the movie shows he was a lot more sophisticated than that.

Maybe because under Trump it would be the electric chair? ...Nah, Donald likes Edward. ;)

Lol ? http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/jul/2/donald-trump-edward-snowden-kill-traitor/

So yeah, only a pardon from Obama would save Edward Snowden's life.

Check some youtube videos on what Donald had to say about Edward with his true vocal tone.
But there are close people to Obama who don't agree with the present president, Barack, like John Kerry for example.
Edward is a love/hate affair depending on the side you're on; free source of information to all, or protection of our nation's most valued interest; survival in a global warfare.

Which side are we and is it the right one? Should we have compassion for informants like the young Snowden who copied and leaked classified information from the National Security Agency in 2013 without prior authorization?

You saw the Oliver Stone's movie; what's your personal take on this, Phil?

Bob,

After watching the movie, I would tend to be on the side of the camp of Snowden, as I think he did what he did based on his own conscience on what was the right thing to do. And he did it knowing his very life and those of his families will be placed at risk. He was in search for the truth and he gave the world the truth.

IMO, it's impossible to argue that what Snowden did makes him a traitor because he was whistleblowing on an illegal surveillance program. That's the key, what Obama and the NSA is doing isn't legal. If it was, then Snowden would be clearly guilty of leaking classified information. IMO, we need to protect people who report illegal activity, I think it's pretty obvious why.

I was watching the interview as well. He's very articulate and knowledgeable. Almost sounds like a politician!!

We judge no one and no one is judging us. If we don't we are lost.

+1.

I had been thinking if that government surveillance program was illegal or not, as I haven't read up on the Homeland Security Act, but now that I know that it's an illegal activity, all the more I support the moves of whistleblowers who expose these things. Question is, even if the government's surveillance program is illegal, how will that government be made culpable for it or will it just be shoved in a drawer as a item marked under 'illegal acts'?

I much preferred Citizenfour that was filmed when Snowden's involvement came to the forefront.

That's the real interview, real life documentary; that's no film, that's no Oliver Stone's "vision".
Film is entertainment, film is sci-fi, film is imagination, film is creation, film is animation, film is fictive.

Documentaries let us make our own mind on what is presented and not. They have an advantage in being closer to reality. Real life interviews are the real deal. There is no interpretation.

Watched both Stone's, "Snowden" and Poitras', "Citizenfour" -- recommended viewing.
