I like Musk more after listening to his podcast, the one that made Tesla shares slump. 
Asked about the purpose of Tesla cars he said "enjoyment" instead of trying to come off like they're saving the world. It seems like his goal is simply to make ecars cool and accepted by the public. I think he did that... they are FAST:
His tech is beyond everyone else's, but (as I predicted months ago) the issues are going to be manufacturing related. This is where the grand vision meets the cold, stark reality of actually making it real. All sorts of %hit happens and the only cure is experience.

For a guy like Elon Musk, a $20 million fine is peanuts (he's worth over $20 billion).
By the way the total fine is $40 million: $20 million coming from Elon Musk himself and the other $20 million coming from Tesla, the company.
