They found a drummer, Anika Nilles. If she’s good enough for Geddy and Alex, she’s good enough for me! Adding a keyboard player too. Love it.

Rather than adding a keyboard player, shouldn't they be thinking of adding another vocalist?
Geddy's vocals had been poor for a decade ahead of the final Clockwork Angels tour, but his voice was totally shot by that one.

I'd be surprised if they didn't.

Based on the interviews I've seen and read, I believe they have enough material, in the can or written, to release an album. In my experience, bands that go through the effort to go out on tour, especially a band with such an avid following as Rush, will either tour in support of a new music release or play new material to tease the release of a new album.

Honestly, the way new music is released in the age of streaming, it's difficult for me to use the term "album" anymore. But Rush is definitely an album based band imho, so I think the term remains apropos.

Rocky Kuner, who was in the Rush cover band YYNOT, would be a great choice at least for everything pre-Signals.

From what I've read, it looks like Geddy having rested his tonsils for over a decade has enabled his voice somewhat to recover.
I hope so, his voice really was too painful to endure at the last tour, and arguably for a decade at that point.

I tried playing Anikas music last nigh. It kind of lost me after a while. I can see how Rush likes it. Its a lot of fills. Definitely beyond a solid beat. After a while it all blended together and I turned it off.
Of course, a drummer is not necessarily a song writer. A band is a group of people creating music. I don't think she has found the right people yet. In a way, its good and bad she teamed up with Rush. It will be recognition. But they are old. They can not last. She needs young people like herself. Sadly, great bands don't seem to rise up often anymore. There are some flash, singer songwriters that rise up. But I don't see many huge bands. And do you think an ego like say Taylor, would tolerate a band? I don't. Its about her.

Streaming may also be the issue. Too much content out there. Radio made you listen to the same bands over and over and over. With streaming, DJ have no influence over what you hear. Kids probably don't spend the time with an album we did as youth. Its hard to get attached to a band when its one among thousands at your disposal.

This is amazing news for any die-hard Rush fan!

I am a die-hard fan but almost never put on their last three records (Vapor Trails, Snakes and Arrows and Clockwork Angels). Of those three, I find nothing worth listening to on VT and only a couple songs on the last two. Even Test for Echo is VERY hit and miss (I like about 4 songs on that album). Also, the YT videos of later concerts show that Geddy really lost his voice and either didn't realize it through stubbornness refused to get a better singer, so he could focus on playing, which he is still amazing at.

So, I think they should just stay retired while more or less on top, because at least a fair number of fans and critics thought Clockwork was really good (I am not one of them but whatever). All you are going to do at this point is dilute your very impressive legacy...

His vocals were a deal breaker over a decade ago.
Over a decade later...
As has been already said, "An Evening With Lee And Lifeson Accompanied By New Keyboard Player, Drummer AND VOCALIST" would get my attention.

Well they/she, have a year to "practice" before the tour gets started!

It's ironic that mainstream acceptance and adulation of Rush started in the mid 90s, and especially on the Vapor Trails comeback after Neil's awful personal family tragedies, effectively Rush being taken into rock lore during their least artistically inspired period.

I hope they do.

But, The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Billy Joel, et al seem to be making bank as a karaoke band of themselves.

Peart was the main lyricist, which, not to be flippant, seems easier to cover for than writing the music.

It' nice to see them get some mojo back.

My wife asked if I was going to buy tickets for one of the two Toronto shows. I just can’t bring myself to see Rush without The Professor.

Buddy I work with bought tickets and asked if I wanted to go. $800 is a bit steep. David Gilmour maybe. I love Rush but not that much. If I was a gambling man, I’d bet on an album being released.

I wish I could downvote you but I can’t. His voice was rough that last tour.
