In a recent post a welling meaning member recommended to a man with Tinnitus that he stay away from silver cables essentially because of the inherent brightness of Silver. But is that traditional assumption/orthodoxy still correct? My understanding is that most of the high end cable companies have made real advancements in metallurgy such that you can no longer assume that their Silver wire is inherently brighter than their Copper wire. That is certainly my take away of late when comparing cables. It is true that some cables are brighter than others, but that no longer appears to be simply caused by Silver versus Copper. I am interested to hear what other listener's experiences have been regarding this issue. In other words should we be making blanket statements about inherent qualities of Silver or Copper cable other than that Silver ore is more expensive than Copper ore? I welcome your thoughts and experiences?

You are right. While there are bright silver cables, silver is not inherently brighter anymore if the cable is well constructed using silver of the best quality . I have compared my ZenWave SSR-11 silver ribbon speaker cable with its copper equivalent, and it is *not* brighter and/or tonally thinner. It is just more precise. The copper cable in itself is excellent, but the silver cable is even better, which made its purchase a no-brainer for me.
Recently an audio designer visited me in my home, and we compared speaker cables. He was very impressed with my ZenWave silver speaker cable and was surprised that it had no glare. It can be done, indeed.
Snake River Audio, Audio Sensibilities and Audiolund are three companies that one could look at to break this myth. (All of which, I have direct experience with and are currently in my system)
I like that Jonny with SRA uses red copper, silver and gold in some of his recipes. Each metal, offering a differing sound. He is truly an artisan, when it comes to sound IMO. No affiliation to any of the aforementioned, FWIW.

Monocrystal silver (Crystal Cable) and aged silver done right (Kondo) both have transparant, open sound, inherent silence without lifting a frequency. Combining both (XLR Van Gogh / 2.7 dual loudspeaker cables) resulting in endgame cables for me .

I prefer copper speaker cables, especially on tube amplifiers. Although I like silver on the interconnects going into the tube amplifier. I also prefer siver LAN cables, for sound and picture quality. And I find differences in brands, even though they are both silver or both copper. Having one brand all through the system does not produce synergy, in my experience. So the journey is not easy. It requires experimenting.
