We set these up yesterday and I have to share this with everyone here. Yes, that's the tea pot in the background.

Hey Peter, did you get a chance to hear the Audiokinesis Zephrin at Newport Beach? It uses a 'splash' speaker, and does something very similar. They had a setup to allow the splash speakers to be shut off so you could hear how they affect the soundfield (greater depth and width, more palpable imaging when turned on).

Here's a link:

Duke has been a fan of Dr. Geddes for some time; this seems a natural progression from Dr. Geddes theories. Audiokinesis is partnering with a company that controls a patent on the splash speaker concept.

Better yet, Ralph... in video.

The Cube is not using any "splash" as in the way this video shows.

If you were here with me you would be figuring out a refi on your home for these little Perfect8 gems.

90,000 for glass speakers wow I would like to hear them someday playing the Beatles Maxwell's Silver Hammer.

It sounds absurd but looking at them now and listening to Mingus "Oh Yeah" I can rationalize the price. I'm not sure I've ever heard sound reproduced at home like this before. There are no walls to the listening room, you cannot tell where the sound is coming from. They are on the very short list for MBL replacements.

Peter, thank you for sharing this passionate video so soon after installing the speakers. As far as I am aware, PERFECT8 is the only speaker MBL 101 owners and fans would consider giving up their speaker for. However, they primarily talk about the bigger models that you have filmed:

Please share more and also please compare contrast with MBL.

This is not an effect that is natural when listening to live music, the music does have a direction and boundary, atleast when your eyes are open, close them and the ear will start hearing those reflections more and sounds may become less distinct. I have a device, an image expander, that has sort of that effect, but I only use it on a minimal setting, this effect can become too much very quickly. I have not heard these speakers but is that really the way you envision sound or is it a way that makes the sound of the speakers be more a sound you like than the representation of the real event....not caring which way, we all have our preferences. Immersion is something you experience on stage, not so much out in the audience. Just saying.

What I am saying is: I hear only the recorded event, the layering of the mix, the position of multiple mics. What I am not hearing is the loudspeaker. I have never experienced this level of sonic holography before. Someone posted on my facebook that the price is not comparable to the product itself and this I must disagree with when you see (and hear) as many high performance and high priced audio products as I do.

Will you be posting more video on this speaker?

I've been asked to do a video series as to how the set up progresses (like this old house). Then I'll shoot a full review.

Peter,

How would you compare them to the Perfect 8 dipoles [ 2 x ( 8' tall line arrays of midwoofers and ribbons + subwoofer cubes)], if you've heard them, specifically in soundstaging and imaging? I was lucky enough to hear their idipoles in a home 45' x 55' x 35' high 'music room'. I'm a sucker for well done dynamic dipoles, having lived with Alon IVs for 25 years, but the front firing directional tweeter + omni elsewhere at the Newport show would certainly have its own advantages.

Peter that sounds interesting do you have your own site for the videos. What you are doing is time consuming how do you cover your costs.

He sure does...and its quite amazing. you get to 'hear' the system while he reviews it. http://www.avshowrooms.com

I've heard the "The Force" twice, in Newport and in Las Vegas. I was very impressed with their ability to present the proper scale of the music. I've been invited to hear them at an owner's home on Long Island and will do so when time permits. What I hear with the Cubes is not only the scale of the larger speakers but also an uncanny ability to capture phase and thus present the images in their own unique space and time. I do not hear sound coming from the drivers, it's spooky realism. Did I mention that I've have never before heard a separate bass management system that sounds as "one" with the midrange and tweeter as this? It's like a single driver sound but with bass. It's like Quads with way more dynamic realism. They are better soundstagers than IRS Vs. They actually get the scale right... an amazing accomplishment for their size.

While $90k is certainly a ton of cash for a set of speakers, there are sure quite a few that cost a lot more. I will have to give these a listen one day when I have the chance. I don't see them on the list as an exhibitor at the NY show in September. I will have to get a dealer list!

Our demo pair of Zephrin 46s are due to arrive here next week. I'm honored to be Duke's dealer in the midwest.
