A Journey Through Sound — Rockport Technologies at Sunny Components

Three years ago, while walking the halls of the Munich High End Show, I thought I had heard it all. My trip included visits to Switzerland, the CH Precision factory, their machine shop, and circuit board facility. I was there for business — yet fate had other plans.
Between meetings and conversations, I noticed a quiet, understated room. The sign read Rockport Technologies. Out of curiosity, I stepped inside — and what I heard changed everything.
They were unveiling their Orion Loudspeakers for the first time. I was greeted by Josh Clark and Jon Zimmer, whose warmth and passion matched the music filling the room. The sound was expressive, fluid, and alive — an experience so powerful it felt like one of those unforgettable “Maxell moments” where music sweeps you off your feet.
The Orion had only three drivers, yet its coherence, tone, and presence were otherworldly. I found myself circling it, trying to understand how something so elegant could deliver such effortless emotion. In that instant, I knew: I wanted to own Rockport loudspeakers. I wanted to represent Rockport Technologies.
Not long after, I was invited to visit their facility — an experience that confirmed everything I had heard. Within two months, the Lyra, Avior II, and Atria II became part of our showroom family.
Since then, I’ve witnessed how Josh, Jon, and their exceptional team have expanded Rockport’s manufacturing capabilities, bringing in seasoned craftsmen — some of whom I’ve known for years — and refining every process. They’ve improved packaging, streamlined setup for dealers, and elevated efficiency, all while preserving the artistry and musical integrity that define their sound.
Today, Rockport’s newest creation, the Lynx, carries that same lineage. Like the Orion that first captivated me, the Lynx is a three-driver loudspeaker, slightly smaller and easier to place in any room. It shares its DNA with the Lyra, delivering an astonishing balance of beauty, scale, and precision. Its look is simply stunning — modern sculpture that sings.
The Lynx introduces Rockport’s new DAMSTIF3™ enclosure, a single, massive aluminum casting with no joinery or fasteners. This innovation achieves maximum damping, stiffness, and mass — resulting in an almost complete absence of enclosure-induced noise.
“As with the Lyra, the fundamental absence of enclosure-induced noise has a profound effect on the LYNX’s musical presentation,” says Andrew Payor, Rockport’s founder and Director of Technology. “It yields an incredibly low noise floor, unmatched dynamic contrasts, and astonishing low-level detail.”
Inside, the 10-inch carbon fiber sandwich-cone woofer, 6-inch midrange, and 1-inch waveguide-loaded beryllium tweeter work in perfect harmony, producing first-octave bass with agility, a transparent midrange rich with tonal color, and crystalline highs of startling realism. The diamond-machined waveguide adds both sonic precision and visual artistry.
In today’s world, there are countless loudspeaker brands — many passionate, many talented — but few with Rockport’s 35-year heritage of consistency, craftsmanship, and integrity. Every speaker they’ve ever made can still be repaired, restored, and measured to its original specifications.
They preserve individual cross-over calibration data — because at Rockport, we don’t “voice” speakers. Instead, each crossover is meticulously calibrated to match our reference frequency response curves, ensuring that every pair of loudspeakers measures and sounds identically to our reference standard. This is the foundation of Rockport’s consistency, accuracy, and musical integrity.
This philosophy — placing service before production — has made Rockport owners lifelong believers. Many in the audio industry, even those representing other brands, choose Rockport for their own homes. That loyalty speaks volumes.
Perhaps it’s time you hear why. Auditions are available by appointment, and on November 21st and 22nd, we invite you to join us for a special event focused on the Lynx and Lyra loudspeakers. Come experience music the way it was meant to be heard — with grace, truth, and emotion.
