Currently I use a Pioneer BDP-51fd as my source, and though it isn't a spectacular source, with some dynamat and some great synergy with my current IC's, its a player that has surprised me greatly and pushed many possible upgrades out of mind. I'm so impressed with it that the though of mild modifications through new caps and connectors have been churning in my head for about a month. The thing preventing me from doing so is lack of soldering skills.

Anyways, the Oppo 105 has been on my radar since it hit the market. I've yet to hear it, but it holds everything I'd want in a unit that would replace the Pioneer. The biggest factor here is the USB/streaming/DSD capabilities it brings to the table. The other benefits are improved video performance and (hopefully) better redbook playback, though I'm content with the Pioneer in those areas. Are there other units in the $1200 and under bracket hitting the big factors that should be on my list as well?

PS - those MIT IC's are long gone. I'm currently using Douglas Connection IC's which I believe are Furez copper. They are the best IC's I've heard in my system, besting some 10x its price.

With those criteria, no.

The Oppo 105 is IT.

The Oppo has no contenders in its price range.

I agree that there is no competition for them. No major company is focused on what they are doing. Instead they keep dropping their price down to compete (while losing money doing it). Many of the higher end brands have reliability issues with respect to playing movies and such.
