I've done a lot of comparisons and love my Phison DAC. They can be found on the used market for your price range.

No, I was referring to the reviewer's summary comments as follows...

To put it plain, ModWright's Elyse put up an amazing fight against what I consider one of the best converters currently made. That in itself was quite the feat. By implication, it automatically positioned the ModWright at a very high level.

By comparison to the $18'000 Golden Gate, having his sticker not cause a heart attack is an additional bonus. My flag of admiration thus sat at the top of the pole. True, I'd personally part with the additional cash to secure my place in the LampizatOr camp just because I've over time deeply familiarized myself with its qualities and built a system around them which happen to ring all my bells. But if one had a lot less to spend and looked for an Elyse-type sonic profile… then this ModWright should be a keeper for many years to come.

But this guy had actually been quite descriptive on the first page noting where the Modwright fell short.

Yes because your USB comes from a laptop that is non optimized with non optimized software. It might still sound better after optimization but that will be a different trial

That USB thang you brought round ages ago was still naff. What was it I can't remember?

Bear in mind I am using HDMI->TV->optical out. Of all the configs I have tried it is the best sounding. Crazy but true.

It was still USB through your laptop. It was just a total dac USB cable

Be that as it may, the OP doesn't have an $18k budget for a dac, so that is a moot point. And the fact remains, the Modwright is a terrific value at or near it's price point (assuming you don't require DSD).

I completely agree it is out of budget. And I don't know the Amber, so didn't say anything. The big 7 is great if he can stretch up though and in the used market is available at great rates.

I don’t need dsd. It’s nice if I get it, because I can upsample from my server, but I Only use PCM with usb in and rca out. No volume control needed also. A simple, minimalist Dac would do the trick,if very high sound quality of course.
220v also, as I live in Europe/France.

Where is this board? Was it a Lampi special?

Currently this seems to be it, which is what I have: Amanero board.

I actually use the optical interface. I hate to say it but it obviously sounds better than USB in my machine. It shouldn't in my mind but it does.

There are quite a few companies on the web doing these modded Amanero boards such as the infamous Acko board but there are many others. Some include better clocks, some include an isolator, some a reclocker, and some a combo thereof. Below is an example.

I don’t need dsd. It’s nice if I get it, because I can upsample from my server, but I Only use PCM with usb in and rca out. No volume control needed also. A simple, minimalist Dac would do the trick,if very high sound quality of course.

Personally with Lampi I don't need DSD as well it is a good option to have. I don't use VC... Had it with my big 7 but took it out for GG...

If you have the standard Amanero, I can’t see much risk you will get a worse result if you use an Amanero with better clocks as long as you can use a soldering iron. As for xmos, yeah I dunno if that’ll be better.
FWIW - my GG with superclocks was much better on usb than spdif using my own design usb cable (without 5v line).

First off, you need a good server, next, use an unpowered USB. Finally you can use an Ideon outboard USB reclocker. Do all that and Toslink will be blown away, as will basic Spdif.
