Starting a thread to discuss the new REFERENCE Amp

The HD line can be upgraded to Reference, has anyone seen specs on the amps or pre? Pre can have single or duel power supplies.

Dave

I have seen specs but don’t think I’m allowed to post until Nagra does. My REF Pre and Amp are arriving next week, hopefully…

Congrats!! did you upgrade or buy new? Did you get 2 power supplies for the pre, I'm pretty excited to hear about obviously! Any listening notes

Dave

These are new, as I did not previously own Nagra HD Amps or the HD Pre.
The extremely low noise floor was a big plus, as I was never quite happy with the noise floor from the DarTZeel 18NS/108 — but this is only an issue with ultra efficient speakers (mine are over 100dB), and if you are sitting within 3m.
I have the Classic Amp, Tube DAC, and the HD DAC X and HD Phono, and at this point I have come to trust Nagra, so an audition was not necessary. I’m not big on auditioning unless it’s in my room anyway.

Agree on trusting the Nagra sound and after experiencing what extra power supplies can do with the Wadax PSU, I'm in.

I didn’t answer your question: I just got one PSU. With the Shunyata Denali v2 feeding it, I thought it would be overkill to have 2; and had to draw the line on price somewhere!
Would be interesting to hear opinions on sound quality with 2 vs 1…

IMG_5556.jpegIs this the new stuff? Not familiar with Nagra’s line. Sounded very good, in particular, a rare system that didn’t discriminate, digital & analogue were equally good. Remarkable given the system was streaming from their inexpensive streamer.

This looks like the HD Amps. The REF look the same, but there is a “REF” badge on the front.
They have not yet demo’ed the REF line publicly.

I am thinking should I do 1 psu on the pre and upgrade the amps. or dual psu on the pre and amps later .... I thinking about upgrade path vs trading in...I think the amps have to go back to Switzerland :(, but the pre maybe field upgradable.

I would say the Amps and 1 PSU for the Pre first. That must be the bigger sonic advantage. I have seen the specs on the amps and there are significant improvements. I’m sure the Pre is notably improved as well but haven’t seen the full specs, other than a further reduction in noise floor.

Delighted to share with anyone interested in the all-new NAGRA Reference PREAMP, we will actually have it here in Brooklyn NY to demo/listen to!

It's currently on its way with anticipated delivery Nov 18
