My Wilson Journey...

Hi Steve,

I've had three RELs over the years. The TX series. The brand has a well deserved reputation for being a two channel serious music lovers top choice. I totally concur and you will read many reviews to that effect. Musicality and blending with the mains are a given but the true magic is their incredible impact on soundstaging, tonal saturation / imaging density and subsequent emotional impact of the entire system sound. It impacts everything across the entire frequency range on all music genres.

Once installed and tuned and you've had sometime with them under your belt, do the following. Play something familiar. Turn the subs off. Listen again and be prepared to be shocked. The entire musical foundation will disappear. Not hyperbole. Just fact. Trust you and your family are well. Take care my friend.

Oh yes, I almost forgot. Do buy the SubDude isolation platform. Cheap and very effective.

Gordon
Thanks for your thoughts on the RELs. I've heard these things with the current subs and I have also played the system without them. My goal is to expand on these traits with some of the best from REL, some day! I also hope you are doing well and if you're ever in the Colorado Springs area, be sure to contact me and come over!

I've had my WP8's for approximately 15 years. During this time, the Wilson's have been great, but speakers have continued to improve. The current Fyne Audio F703SP really surprised me with its sound, so I purchased a pair! I currently have ten days of play on them and they sound like they might be broken in. It's funny, you own a pair of speakers for so long that you really get attached to them, but I'm not really missing them, as these speakers sound amazing to me. The subs have been dialed in and the integration is excellent, to my ears. I need to get my lighting for the speakers better, as they look dark when the light is not directly on them. Anyway, here are a few pictures..the picture of the top is close to the actual color.

My thanks go out to sbo6, (Steve) who, on his recent visit used software and great skill, to fine tune my speaker placement, sub placement and adjustment. He reduced both room induced bass nulls and peaks to get better sound quality, as well as main speaker and sub positioning to get the best imaging and sound. He also adjusted the speaker spikes, which needed it, I'm assuming due to settling. All in all, a very nice improvement in bass and sound quality. It's nice to have such a talented friend! Prior to Steve's arrival I had inserted two 10Gtek ethernet media converters, in order to convert to optical, then back to non-optical. This upgrade reduced ethernet distortion and was especially noticeable on some female high pitched voice. Most of the high treble range was improved. I'm impressed that this simple change had such an effect. I have also connected grounding wires from my amps' ground plugs to my speakers' ground plugs upon advice from my speaker dealer Adam, of Soundscape in Evergreen, CO. I'm also playing with lighting. I almost forgot, I also removed the ceiling absorbers, as I think they absorbed some of the life from the music. Happier with the sound, now. Pictures:

Two Small Green Computer SGC 5V-9V, 25W - 5V Linear Power Supplies arrived today. They are now powering my two 10Gtek media converters. Since they had voltage trim pots, I measured both to ensure they were set to the correct voltage. Both read 5.09v, so I didn't adjust the trim. After listening for a few hours, the sound seems even better, as in more relaxed, yet even more powerful, with better clarity of low level info . I'm keeping them. A new shelf should arrive tomorrow, but until then, one is sitting on a hockey puck, while the other is on a small piece of wood, just to keep them off the carpet. I can't wait until the end of the month, when I get to audition new mono blocs!
