Those are my 2 cents from Munich 2022
After two years in which the audio exhibition did not take place the expectations from the current exhibition were high, some after my visit at the show during 19-20/5.
A. In the exhibition, as everywhere, we listen to room + setup, not to a single component - there for its hard or not possible to tell spacific component sound
B. Except for hard-defined cases, It is not appropriate to judge a component/setup according to exhibition performance alone. Some presenters experienced glitches such as a faulty preamp that needed to be replaced, others experienced jumping or failed electricity while others had to challenge acoustics issues (try to demonstrate something when the wall (plywood) separating your room from the other room serves as a back wall to the "disco show" on the other room.
C. Even in Germany, it is better not to build a show setup only on Internet streaming - cause sometimes poor connectivity or access to streaming services can make life hard for the presenters, certainly when so many use the same infrastructure.
D. Atmosphere - I have already seen happier international exhibitions than this, apparently the influence of the corona has not yet dissipated.
E. Not all glitter is gold and not every "diamond" is really like that - some big names' demonstration was really far from expectation (Nagra & Wilson Audio demo, as Wilson Audio D'agostino Demo, Big Estelon demo, M6 during the first day and other big names).
F. the number of exhibitors and products to cover can be overwhelming.
G. Although the number of new models and products in the exhibition did not skyrocket, to me, it didn't fill there was a shortage of such.
H. Pricing, it can be said that only the bull pricing of housing in my country (Israel) is equal to the high-end audio market increasing prices.
I. It was great fun to meet manufacturers in person, talk to them, and understand what is behind their product philosophy, engineering, and production - for me, this is one of the most fun parts of the exhibition.
