What an aboslute disappointment!

I bought the Macca releases of Band On The Run and McCartney some months ago, and while digitally remastered they were and are more than acceptable for repeated playing. As such I had high hopes for the JL Imagine RSD release and gladly plunked down the $45 to get it.

My system is far from SOTA, but this sounded so horrible I have almost no words to express my utter disappointment in hearing this classic album. Talk about compression and a complete lack of emotion and vibrancy. What a total waste of good vinyl.

This album may be the worst digitally remastered vinyl I have had the displeasure of listening to.

The semi-recent Mo-Fi reissue isn't much better. I think John recorded this album on a cheap cassette deck.

Damn...that's even more discouraging! Gonna have to dig out my orginal pressing a little later and see how it stands up. I'd like to know how this crap passes quality control!

If the master tape is a piece of junk, all of the QC in the world isn't going to fix that problem after the fact. I think the master tape is junk.

I'm going to dig out my orginal pressing today, but I already know it's going to sound way, way better than this current remaster. In fact, I have listened to the original hundreds of times over the decades and never did I feel disappointed in its production.
