Introducing Olympus & Olympus I/O - A new perspective on modern music playback

Hi Taiko, it is Max here. Thanks for the delivery of the Olympus server. It works great and provide great sound for my enjoyment. My machine came with the preinstalled Analog Card and now may be the time for me to change the Daughter Card to AES Digital output to test the ultimate sound of this machine. I noticed that you have the guide for replacement in the manual. However, I found that you used to provide a Video on youtube to show user how to change the network card. Will you consider to provide similar video to show the user for the replacement. Also more important is any softwares setting required after the replacement? It is a great machine and I don't want to take any risk for replacing the daughter.
Can you please the link of changing daughter card? Thanks

Alas, we do not yet have a video showing how to change the XDMI daughter cards.

Personal experiences and learnings....

If I have a great balanced transformer and kick ass ground, it's still was not enough to clean up the mains.

That its important to restart the OS on the O if I pull the ethernet from the T router due to a storm.

That I need to restart the OS on the O as a routine, once a week.
I learned that I still need to shut down and restart my house router that connects to the T router to get the best results.
(The modem not as often)

I learned to scan and choose the least noisy wifi channels to get the best sound ...Some how this appears to have an effect.

I learned that properly torqued drivers are mandatory and the interval of follow up cant be 6 months.

Of course your mileage and tolerance to such minutia may vary. :)

1 - When you say scan channels do you mean WiFi? What uses WiFi in your setup besides a mobile device (phone, tablet)?

2 - Drivers for what components?

Like i said, somehow wifi on the connected house router has an effect. When I find a better 2.4 or 5g it appears to sound better.
No idea really.. Just seems to have a correlation..

Torqued drivers(speaker drivers).

My home router is wired-only. I have a separate Asus mesh which provides the WiFi. I could tweak that.

I guess taking advantage of the motherboard XDMI assembly when building an Olympus might be a good time to make a one-minute video. It would be terrible if a mistake when changing a daughterboard ruined an XDMI card that costs €15,000.

I may have something on my phone - not good enough to post officially but might be helpful to visualize things.
If anyone needs help, ping me in private message, and I will try to dig it out or help.
We'll get professional videos done at some point.

The Lampi XDMI daughter looks very different than what you posted in the MSB thread.

...OK sorry. I missed the Lampi definition. Carry on...

I don't know if people were posting about the Lampi. I just wanted to mention it in case someone does have a Lampi and opens up the case. Your post is very useful.

FWIW, I've found every server I've used to run Roon audibly benefits from a periodic reboot. Unsure if Roon has a memory leak somewhere, or hoards resources, or something else above my pay grade, but I'd be surprised if the reason is unique to Olympus.

@RUIN*ish and @joet - I agree. I thought that the Olympus would be free of this after rebooting the Extreme on a regular basis, but it definitely benefits from a reboot. And you're right, may well be Roon.

Probably an idea for Cristiaan to include an automatic routine every week/#days after charging the batteries for the Olympus to reboot.
Cheers

Been playing with temperature and its effect on the O.
Normally, I have the area at 73°f which puts the O at 39 to 40c...
I've lowered the temp by 1 degree to 72°f in the area.
The O runs now at 37 to 38°c during playback..
To my ears, 37 to 38°c sounds better..
At 40°c, I can hear a bit of a change ...
It's at a cost keeping the area cooler but, to me, it's worth it.
Climbing out of the weeds now..

Hi Marc! I may have missed it but what are you using to cool the area of your O? Photo possible?
