My system sounds a bit laid back. Without changing electronics or speakers, is there a way to bring the image forward, to get a more intimate feel with the music?

this is a combination of (1) wall treatment behind, to the sides, from the floor, on the ceiling.....near your speakers, (2) speaker toe in, toe out, (3) distance between your speakers, and (4) listening distance/seating position.

if you have excess reflective energy from surfaces this will reduce imaging. sitting closer will reduce reflective effect as you will get more direct sound. but the other factors will also be influences.

when you try to sit closer you may find that more detail and more reflective hash and that might be fatiguing. so treating close surfaces might be required to sit closer. what is important is to figure out what is causing what.

the great thing is that all these adjustments, even the surface treatments, are free or cheap and easy to try.

good luck.
