How do you organize your classical records ?

If you search the Web for "how to organize classical music" you get no definitive answer. Instead you get a long list of forum threads.

Been there, done that! Now that I am settled and working on my new room and system, cataloging my vinyl on discogs will continue. Will have to re-rip all my cd's again. Really starting to like streaming.

Work in progress. I finally have everything organized by composer, soloists, and mixed collections. British music (mostly Lyrita + Holst), Baroque, Pop/Rock, Jazz/Lounge also have their own groups. The 9 modular shelf-boxes on the right are temporarily holding still-sealed. Each shelf-box can hold 70 records, but I don't pack them quite that tight. Out of the picture are 12 shelves on the left and 9 at the back. There is only a single pile of records that I could not decide where to put - yet.

The largest collections are in 10 crates moved to other rooms, waiting to be brought back (Beethoven 2, Sibelius 2, Mahler 2, Mozart, Shostakovich, Bach, Tchaikovsky, Bruckner). And there are another 8 crates in a storage area, unsorted but those will have to wait. It has been fun seeing old friends I forgot about, but I want my room back.

How do you find something you are looking for?

Good question. It’s abit of a pain when I cart find something I wanna listen to, but I am old fashioned and love flicking threw the lps.
