I am eyeing the 4 chassis 2a3 amp with 10y driver. I will be at Munich, will you bring one of these Thomas? I think they would be a great match for my 109db efficient horns. I don’t even drive the bass section with the set, it will only take care of 120hz and over.
We pretty much have the same setting and eyeing the same amps. Mine is 107 db but I dont know if it is really 107. Thomas recommended me the 211.

Tang :)

Dear Tang, I guess we have similar taste.

I already have a 845 amp and I was hoping to get the taste of small tubes. I feel, as I do not drive the bass with sets, 3.5watts of 2a3 could pull it off. The rectangular box design of of Thomas's 211 and 845's does not match my visual taste as well...

You can easily do this test by trying with another 2a3 to check if it works. There are some cheap 2a3 or 45 you can buy for testing drive.

I don't know if this the right place to ask to Thomas but maybe there are some others interested parties that read as well.

There are two models of 4 chassis 2a3 amps with only difference listed on the webpage being the driver tube. One is 10y (or 45) and the other is 6N7. Are there other upgrades or major differences other than the driver tube. It is double the price of the 6N7 model so I wondered.

@kodomo I currently do not have a 2A3 demo amp. I will demo with 46 amps in Munich and will also have a set of 845 there. Depending on your listening habits and actually sensitivity go your horns a 46 might be enough. I recently demoed a set of my 46 amps at a customer with Avantgarde speakers which are spaced 107dB and there were also used in the mid and treble section. Worked beautifully.

Bomzo75s advice to try to get a 2A3 amp on loan to try is good. This will give a good impression about the power you need.

Best regards

Thomas

@kodomo You mentioned that you dislike a certain chassis style. Since I build everything to order different chassis styles can be done. Also anything totally new as long as the components fit into it physically. The 46 amp can also be built in 4 chassis style like the 2A3. I am currently working on such a 4 chassis set 46 amps albeit in landscape style chassis.

Regarding the difference between the driver tubes: The 6N7 is an indirectly heated tube. The 10Y is directly heated. Directly heated tube offer better sound quality but require a muh more complex design to work noise free and to unlock that sound potential.

Don't hesitate to ask any questions you have. Either here on the forum or privately

Best regards

Thomas

Get Thomas to send you a 10Y and some differential 211s for the Uni, Chris :)
I would have ask Thomas if he would take my car as a trade-in ;)
But depending on the models of choice, my car would not suffice

Hi Christoph, no need to offer your car ;)
We discussed some demo some years ago. Liechtenstein is close enough for a quick check.
When I have my 46 amps back which are currently on loan at a customer we can try those. You might be surprised how loud 1.25W can go with the right speakers

Wow, you remember me after all those years?
I hope that is not a bad sign...

I would love to visit you in Lindau to listen to your wonderful gear

Since I contacted you years ago, a lot changed here, especially speaker wise.
I'm pretty sure my Universums with "only" around 95dB sensitivity, their conventional 15 Inch woofer and especially my ginormous living room preclude a 45 oder 46 amp
But the Living Voice Air Scouts with around 105 dB may be a candidate for 45 or 46 :D

The Empress is the one Lee has, right?

For a trial run, a sun audio 2a3 could be a great contender. Good layout, simple amp with tamura mid level transformers

Or soon you?

Heh. Quite a while before I get devore, then will have to try to see if those work. And see if a high gain pre can drive better
