The big noise problem is the PC. Do not listen to it in a close direct setup. Say we connect a streamer in the chain wich will be connected to a amp this will probably be better than any other filter or things. This example from Wiim for only 149 usd could be a best start for you. I think Dac is in the box as well.

As I can clearly hear the way a filter radically alters the sound of my streams, and how much better high fidelity files on my computer sound with the ethernet unplugged, I would say that I probably don't need to invest in a streamer for casual listening at this point.

Besides, if I wanted to continue to degrade my listening chain with a Delta Sigma and opamp laden monstrosity, I would have stuck with my soundcard.

I have received the filter, and given it a brief listen. It's noticeably more transparent than the iFi, but also with a bright top end.

Mike indicated that it has between 100 and 200 hours on it, so a longer burn-in should be in order.

Today the filter is noticeably brighter, almost unbearably so at times. Given the way it sounds, I would guess that it is only half way burned in at this point.

Today's listening session indicates an improvement in the highs, but it is also a bit closed in. I figure that it may be completely settled in by the end of the week.

At 144 hours, it sounds like it is begining to reach its peak performance, but something tells me it still has a little ways to go.

Instead of smoothlan, I would say that it is revealinglan with no overly overt discrepencies, being just a bit rough and slightly analytical in its presentation.

The iFi LAN iSilencer is slightly grittier, with a more closed in and 2 dimensional sound, but it is also a bit warmer and smoother overall.

By adding the iSilencer to the input of the router (filtering the modem), the sound is a bit warmer and smoother with a darker background, but also with a slight reduction of air and space.

Further analysis shows that both filters produce particular types of distortion that are nonetheless lessened when used together in their current placements.

I will be posting a final analyses Sunday night.

It's Sunday night, and the Smooth-Lans slightly hard and strident high frequencies remain, even with the iSilencer in the circuit.

Except for the irregularity listed above, the Smooth-Lan provides a deeper and more transparent soundfield than without it in place, while being only slightly diminished by the iSilencer. The individual voices and instruments are clearly fleshed out with a reasonable degree of timbral accuracy.

While I can enjoy the improvements on a technical level, it still fails to draw me in due to the way that digital distorts the sound, which I am particularly sensitive to.

It is however acceptable for short term casual listening when my ears are up to it.

The SmoothLAN has finally reached the point of acceptable transparency, where the varying quality of recordings are clearly heard without any notable distortions or colorations being imparted by it.

The iSilencer remains "silent" in its position as well.

Glad to hear that SoundMann, any idea how many hours it took?
