Easy Street Records in Queen Anne is forced to close

Tough times all around.

Tim

actually it's because of rising property and rent values from the growth that are driving this; not any tough times. Amazon has exploded it's footprint in this part of Seattle along with other factors and it's thriving. the music sales business is also good; simply not good enough to afford the rent.

I'm in an altruistic mood...think I'll head down there tonight and help them liquidate inventory after slaking my thirst at Toulouse Petit!

You guys need to move to Toronto! There are more and more vinyl shops opening up all of the time, and the old established ones are thriving!

So, score another point for capitalism, ie the owner can get more rent from someone else.

Capitalism unfettered is greed.

Seems none of the folks interviewed pointed out the real reason for the loss of the store, an individuals ability to extract more money from the property.

I have seen the same thing happen to very good resturants and other stores, the owner keeps upping the rent and drives them out. And, it happens to people too who rent.

Since there is another store, perhaps if they have not realized it, they better buy their property as the same thing is bound to happen again at the other location, in time.

at the risk of really getting off the rails here, i'll mention that the health of the brick and motar music software business is best served by economic growth and trickle down, not by property owners not optimizing their assets. greed, as they say, is not a 4 letter word. if Easy Street wanted to open another store-front in that general area they could easily do it.
