DoP and USB-to-SPDIF converters

Hi All,

Perhaps I can share with you guys what I had gathered from the other thread at computeraudiophile for the Mytek DAC. Apparently, the Mytek is capable of decoding DoP through any one of its digital inputs. The brains behind HQPlayer has been actively transmitting DoP over toslink from his Linux machine.

Hope this information is useful.

DoP was invented because the USB audio standard doesn’t support native DSD.
By packaging the DSD in a 24 bit PCM you can transmit it to a DAC and play it there natively.
This requires a media player supporting DoP and a DAC supporting DoP too.
By design DoP is not limited to USB as it uses the PCM format.
But again to make it work over e.g. SPDIF both the media player and the DAC must support DoP using this protocol.

Thanks. That was my speculation :)
