I don't own the transport but I have heard it extensively and agree with sonrock's assessment. Putting a % difference on this isn't easy (maybe <5%), but personally I wouldn't miss it, especially given the cost of the transport and the loss of simplicity required when spinning solid media. I will say this, having configured the best of Roon and having used the best server from Aurender- my system with Vivaldi DAC, clock and upsampled sounds better direct from NAS than from either of the above. As implausible as that sounds it is an inexpensive option to explore, so I recommend doing so. Without mentioning names, I know at least two others with golden ears who have come to the same conclusion.

I'm curious about the details of your NAS setup. Are you running a UPNP server (Minimserver?) on the NAS? Which NAS? I'm experimenting with similar options for my Vivaldi stack. Thanks in advance.

I am also curious. What software are you using on your NAS? I recently came back to Ligitec Media Server (defunct, but now renamed Lyrion Music Server) and run Squeezelite player on it. I have to say way better sound than Roon maxed out, even better than my beloved Audirvana Origen. My conclusion is, the lighter and simpler the software the better (it can) sound.

Or are you using dCS's own player?

I am using a Synology 718+ NAS drive, running Minimserver. I have the fan-cooled NAS drive in a remote location and the upsampler connected directly to an Eero mesh node. Access to NAS-stored files is smooth and easy with the Mosaic app., selecting "UPNP" as source. Sometimes the cheaper option wins, a rarity in this pursuit.
