Now Cygnus has been discontinued, Avior II and Lynx are adjacent models with a price delta of $30K. Has anyone auditioned both sets of speakers at the same dealer or in the same system? Would love to hear thoughts on actual comparisons.

I haven’t heard the Lynx but I’m very familiar with the Avior II’s that’s I’ve owned for a little over a year now. Happy to answer any questions you have.

I have owned the atria II and then the Cygnus. Actually 2 pairs of Cygnus due to some issues with finish quality. Cygnus is and was a great speaker. I am not sure it was a good move for Rockport to discontinue it.

It'd be be great if someone can share their comparison between Cygnus and its successor, Lynx.

I owned Cygnus and now own Orion a larger version of the Lynx. A used Cygnus at 40k is hard to beat. That said the Orion is a significantly better speaker. The Lynx/Orion cabinet construction makes for a much quieter speaker. This doesnt just eliminate background noise but it allows you to hear all that the drivers are capable of by not obscuring leading and trailing edges. You’ll hear this as better resolution. The bass is also more linear. If money is no issue buy the Lynx. A used Cygnus is dollar for dollar probably a better “value”. You can’t go wrong here.

I would second JiminGa, the Cygnus at a used price is a crazy high value but the Lynx and Orion are unquestionably better. The Orion was meant as the true upgrade path for the Cygnus owner. I would say if bass quantity was the biggest priority then the Cygnus would be the choice as it can output more bass due to the dual 10's but I could swear I am actually getting lower extension with the Lynx. All the other elements of sound the Lynx do better. We currently have Lynx and Orions on the floor, anyones welcome to come in and give them a listen.

You are getting better more linear bass. Because the internal volume of the Lynx is deceptively large and because of its design you may also be getting an equivalent quantity as well. At least subjectively.

Yes, the internal volume of the Lynx is huge which allows for the crazy extension. Pretty amazing speaker
