No subs. No space for them.

Musical for sure. I like to recreate the room they were recorded in and am interested in feeling the performance, not in a detailed way but the way the speaker moves the air. I come from years of owning ESL57s so I'm always chasing the way those can reproduce the four walls of a room.

Tonally accurate bass. Just need more of it than I'm getting with the Harbeth.

Hi Fishfood , I forgot to also post this website - " Glow in the Dark Audio " the fellow there has tried Over 30 fullrange drivers and his favorite for for a long time were the - Vintage Zenith 49CZ852 drivers....

But then after several years he put them up after he found these - F15 speaker drivers --

-- and here is the Decware ZF15L Speaker on YouTube:

.

--------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------

To Continue - the company Lii Audio also makes Another REALLY Great driver called the - Silver 10 , it is a Very clean sounding driver and it is a Very Detailed speaker driver - it sells for -- $ 1,199 a pair .

Here is one look at a Speaker that uses it;

- http://www.modelpromo.nl/The Liiondias Open Baffle Speaker.htm

---------

- And if you don't have access to wood working equipment, or know someone , you can buy it all ready Built ...

- LII Audio sells the Pre- built speaker and Crossover for - $ 800 , then you order the drivers - the Silver 10 - $ 1,199 , and the F18 bass driver - $ 520 a pair ... and just screw in the drivers into speaker baffles...

----- So about - $ 2,500 for a pair of Amazing sound speakers !!!!!

( the F18 speaker driver is a 18 inch bass driver designed by Lii Audio for their Open Baffle speakers )

Here is the link to Lii Audio's , Pre- Built Speaker:

------------

The same driver is also sold at Decware in their ZC10M Open Baffle speaker design - !!!!!!!!!

- ( and there is an audio company called Caintuck Audio who came up with the best baffle shape for those Lii Audio drivers ....

This is the decware design:

------

- You can Listen to the Silver 10 Driver , playing on the smaller Caintuck Open Baffles , with One W18 bass driver...

--
.

-------------

( If space is really important Steve also sells and uses their ZROCK2 - Bass Restorer , in place of a second driver to add more bass to the 10 inch driver! )

-----------

-- If you did get a chance to read the links I posted earlier for the ZF15L Open Baffle Speaker ... on - " Steve's BIG BETSY project " - his Prototype Speaker Build then you will have read how Impressed Steve is with Both the F15 speaker driver and the Amazing Silver 10 speaker drivers - !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-- ( here are the two forum links )

- ( With the Silver 10 driver to get the added detail you give up a some of the bass that you get in the F15 speaker driver , so you will most likely need an added woofer like in the Liiondias or some EQ to get the bass that many people are looking for - there are a number of units that you can use for the EQ like miniDSP, or Decwares ZROCK2 Bass restoration unit ) -

------------

-- here is another way to add the Bass Driver that is a pretty good looking alternative

--

- the speaker set up there is made by Geno - a Decware forum member , if you would like to listen to other kinds of music on the Silver 10 speaker Geno has more videos here:

----------------

and Steve has more Music and better recordings here:

-------------------------------------------------

Now moving on to another set of Speakers to look at ...

FIRST is the NX-Otica , which a NEXT Level Speaker - !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-- the folks have heard this said you haven't heard a Great Speaker until you have heard this Speaker... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-

-

The Speaker kit is - $ 3,100 - ( plus possibly the Servo subs depending on your room ..... and how much bass you need / want you can always add the subs later) .

-- - https://gr-research.com/product/nx-otica-2/

- - - WHEN Ron at New Record Day heard these he couldn't believe they were this good for the money!! - this speaker will out perform MOST of the other speakers mention here - !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

- don't worry - it's a simple kit to put together and doesn't take very many tools ... there are lots of tutorials and videos on how to do it and lost of help available - from both GR Research and from the all of the other Forum members over on Audio Circle that have built Gr Research kits - !!!! , which is a lot of folks...

------ If you don't have good subwoofers then GR Research offers Great Subwoofers:

- For the Servo subs - These are some of the best subwoofers available on the market and many other speaker companies use GR Research subwoofers for thier speakers!!!

- the Dual Subwoofers are about 3,100 are what Ron was using for Subwoofers : but you can add either single, dual, or triple Servo Subwoofers

- Duals subs - That's two sets of two - 2 x 2 ..... they are 1,700 + 600 for the flat pack of MDF so - $ 2,300

- single Servo Subs - 1 x 2 are - 1,400 ,
- and triple Servo Subs- 2 x 3 are - 3,100 + 800 = about $ 4,000 ,

I didn't see the single flat packs but I'm sure they are available too.

Thanks. I've had the 3XLs and they certainly aren't as good as the 30.1s IMO. I do worship the o/93s although I don't have the right amplifier probably.

I love the 30.1s but I just want more scale and more bass. Would buy 40.1s if they weren't so damn heavy.
Your Herrons would have no trouble driving the O93s IIRC, they're over 90dB

Hi , I realized I went a little overboard on suggesting speakers that are probably too big for what you are maybe looking for - oops sorry -

- Here is a really interesting speaker soon to be out. It's is a compact design that is just a prototype but soon will be sold as a complete speaker - it's a really great speaker!! , this fellow designs and sells really good Amplifiers, Preamplifiers and Speakers!! - And he does some of his design work at diyaudio.com.

- here is a link to see the speaker and read about it. it will cost a lot less than some of the other things - like the Totems .

-- You can listen to it here: - ( please forgive the video picture quality)

proto SLOB,a..jpeg

and here is another fellows version that uses a wood front , ( remember these are just plywood prototypes not the final speaker)

zz xsd-a.jpg

----------

-- I am interested in building it and the F15 open baffles , and the Maggies , along with a few others kinds of speakers to see what style of speaker I like best...

- ( I am also going to build Just the Bass part of the speaker so I can try several SOTA Speaker ideas for the top part of the speaker ... ( 200hz to 20,000hz - low Midrange and up )
- the thing that is great about SLOB Bass - Slot loaded Open Baffle - bass is it doesn't excite room modes nearly as much as some other regular woofer ideas can - and it is very compact, so it works better in small rooms and room shapes that are harder to get good bass in.

More to come!

Best regards, Dean
