And I in turn agree that destroying recordings in the mastering stage does indeed seem to be the norm.

I have followed ECM pretty closely, and I am almost sure they don't record in DSD. I could be wrong, and if any ECM. fans have info on that, please post.

Ultimately, I appreciate what you are trying to do. But we need to be factually correct.

Maybe Bruce B knows more.

I also do have a bunch of ECM 96/24 releases, and a few 88.2/24.

Hi Andre,

It wasn't my goal to post but I am only human after all. :b

I am big on ECM record label (CDs), and I own several of their latest releases, plus older ones of course.
And from my experience I don't ever remember to read DSD recording from the inside info.
Those are PCM [DDD] music recordings, all digital Pulse Code Modulation from beginning to end of the recording chain.

Hope that helps, and take care, and Happy Easter! :b

Yours truly,
Bob

Where do you find that info, Bob? I can't find anything in liner notes about recording equipment.

Thanks Bob. It was a Great Friday!

I think it is very obvious ECM does not record in DSD. No one in their right mind would invest in a DSD recording system unless they were going to release SACDs.

ECM does not do SACD. Kinda case closed.

Hi Rob,

That's exactly what I just said in my above post; I have never read DSD recording technique from the liner notes.

BUT! ...Check this out:

1. http://www.gearslutz.com/board/guit...bass-etc/522462-ecm-recording-techniques.html ... There are only 18 posts.

2. http://www.ecmrecords.com/Catalogue/New_Series/1800/1861.php?cat=&we_start=340

So, just wait a second here Andre; and Rob what do you make of it now! :b

P.S. Sorry, I had to readjust both links (human typo error).

Thanks for links. I think this information settles it. ECM records to Pro Tools in PCM currently.

the SACD in your link is what I understand to be the only one they ever produced.

Brahem not only is a incredible recording artist, but a masterful live performer. I have about a dozen non commercially released performances around
Europe and they just take your breath away.

Since starting this thread, I checked my Brahem album inventory against the list on allmusic.com, and much to my dismay found I missed "Madar", an outing with Jan Garbarek (whom I am not normally crazy about). The collaboration works beautifully, and this is another must have little gem.

I am almost sure that Madar is technically a Jan Garbarek recording, which is why it was not listed on Allmusic, which is usually very accurate.

Either that or it is credited to the ensemble. Great record for sure.

That crazy Viking has played with everyone under the sun, including Keith Jarrett, Hilliard Ensemble, Egberto Gismonti. I don't particularly care for his "tone", but this recording is great.

LOL. Yes he has, but he also amassed quite an impressive discography. I'm a big fan actually.

I quite like his contribution on Zakir Hussain's "making music". Throwing in a few well timed notes in the right place (like on Madar). Can't listen to a whole album of his music though.
