Amazon Announces Vinyl Sales Up 745 percent Since 2008

More power to Mike Fremer for butting heads on the engadget comments section he links to but there comes a point when it is futile to argue. What's interesting is that while Amazon's stats may reflect the increase in sales on a mass market level, it doesn't reflect the level of used vinyl on ebay (which has to be huge), let alone all the specialty sites that cater to 'audiophile' remasters, like Acoustic Sounds, Music Direct, etc.
Some of the engadget comments are pretty funny though. The best one I saw before I tired of it was 'yeah, sure, they sold 7 records, and that accounted for the 700% increase.' Oh, well, nobody is trying to take over the world with vinyl, just a small chunk of it.

In general that may be good for "vinyl people" like me and others around here vis-à-vis supplies and such but because the genre I'm interested in is so narrow (passionate but narrow) I don't see many changes in the near future.

I went to FRYS today and saw a small selection of vinyl, audiophile releases by Adele, Hendrix (mono) Foo Fighters etc. Some looked interesting but I was nowhere near reaching for my wallet.

What genre is of interest to you? Just curious.
I've also found that much new vinyl is defective. Amazon, for some time as far as I know, didn't air condition their distribution facilities- I think that has changed, but many new issues I got from them were warped. I recently got the soundtrack to Cloud Atlas from Amazon UK and it is unplayably warped. Granted, their return policies are wonderful, but it is almost more trouble than it is worth to repack and take to UPS here in the States.....

Heavy music, most of the various metal genres, experimental, industrial.

I've bought many LP's that were pressed in a quantity of 300, for example, and 2 years later there were unsold copies. I don't track what's popular, I track what I personally like.

Been buying records selectively since the mid-1970's. Just picked up 4 more today. My wife thinks I'm weird.
