There was no way Angelo Dundee was going to miss Muhammad Ali's 70th birthday party.

The genial trainer got to see his old friend, and reminisce about good times. It was almost as if they were together in their prime again, and what a time that was.

Dundee died in his apartment in Tampa, Fla., Wednesday night at the age of 90, and with him a part of boxing died, too.........

Alis' greatest strategic victory "the rope a dope " against George Foreman was not the brainchild of Dundee. That is probably the only time Dundee doubted Ali. Great trainers and coaches realize sometimes they just have to get out of the way. Behind every great champion there is someone reminding him that maybe he is not as great as he thinks he is.

We will not see his kind again.

Can't forget Dundee being in Sugar Ray Leonard's corner against Thomas "Hit Man" Hearns. In the middle rounds, Hearns was one or two combinations away from the victory that would have defined his career, but Dundee rallied Leonard and he later knocked Hearns out of the ring en route to the decision.

Not a boxing fan, but I can't count the number of times I watched that bout end-to-end. Fascinating.

Ray Leonard destroyed another legendary puncher named Roberto Duran.

After Duran taught him some tough lessons.

I've always wondered how AD chose whose corner to be in when two of his greatest wards in Sugar Ray and Marvelous Marvin faced off. Boy, that must have been tough.
