I went to see Ad Astra today, a movie I have been looking forward to since they started promoting the movie on television a few weeks ago. I even saw the IMAX version. The only problem with IMAX in our local theater is that the regular theaters have newly installed reclining seats while the IMAX theater still has regular old movie theater seats. I do prefer the luxury reclining chairs.
Brad Pitt is the star of the film with Tommy Lee Jones and Donald Sutherland making appearances as well. I like well made science fiction movies and this one was made a little more interesting by being set in the relatively near future with some things that looked somewhat similar to current space travel but with some new technology, too....but not the wildly futuristic Star Trek type. Definitely a more realistic and grittier presentation of space travel.
I don't want to give away too much of the plot so I'll leave that alone. I will say that the movie is a good character study, has a major theme of issues between a father and his son - and the fate of mankind is at stake. Wouldn't be a science fiction move without that element.
EDIT - I was presented with a special and large United States Space Operation Imax Crew pin when entering the theater. Tonight I pinned it to my shirt and my wife had a good time making fun of my dorky science fiction pin. She asked if I had enlisted in Trump's new United States Space Force. I have not.
