New to the Forum... My question is to anyone who has the 803 D4's or maybe any 800 D4' series. I have a chance to buy the 803 D4's and was wondering if anyone has regretted buying them? I would be pairing them with the B&W DB1D Sub. My amplifier is the McIntosh MA352 that has a power output of 200WPC into 8 Ohms and 320WPC into 4 Ohms. This is a significant investment but I am getting them at a very good price and just wanted to see what others think. Thank you

I haven't heard the 803s, but my neighbor has 801 D4s and I've probably listened to them fifty times.
He has them powered by a pair of Classe Delta monoblocks with 300w each, and I have the sense that it's the pairing of his speakers and amps that makes his system work so well. His overall sound is very muscular and enveloping, and large-scale music is very impressive. Live rock concert recordings can make you believe that you're there.
Speaking for the 801 D4s and Classe Deltas (in his moderately large room), I'd say that they excel at arena rock and full-orchestra classical, but I'd rather listen to my Von Schweikert Endeavor SEs/Model Ones with my hybrid Modwright integrated when it comes to jazz and anything more intimate.

What have been your previous speakers and what kind of music listener are you? How large is your music library and what is the rest of your system? Best Buy Magnolia should have Macintosh (or other similar amps) with 803D4, that will give an idea. In general they have particular signature, but tuned up "right" , should sound very, very good. I have to add that I'm not a fan of Macintosh amplifiers in general, but you still will get a very good set up.

they have a "showroomy" tonal identity that is either for you longterm or not and will be present regardless of amp

Kofi, this comment resonates with me. I have heard 802-D4s driven by Parasound JC1s, and some years ago had actually placed an order for 802-D3s (demo'd with Classe Delta electronics) before I discovered Magico. I canceled my order and bought Magico S3 MkIIs, since upgraded to S3 2023s.
