Fantastic trail of audio icons on that list. All awesome choices, even better choice than spending it all up in a girly bar in my humble opinion lol

In 1988 I had a Technics midi system, with a tt using linear tracking arm.

I still use one of those, but my spend is 1000x that budget from 3 decades ago.

Two years earlier in 1986 I had;

Hulking great pair of British IMF RSPM Mk7 transmission line speakers
Monster big ME 150 amp with ME25 pre (still has a cult following in Australia)
Sota Star Sapphire tt
SME series V arm
Garrott brothers modified Dynavector
and... a record collection! Sigh.

Sold it all off to fund a year backpacking across Europe and the Mediterranean and throughout the US.

So in 1988 I had;
Uhmmm, a Sony Walkman...

Oh how easy it all was back in the day lol

Magneplanar Tympany IVA and after 2 years Soundlab A1 with mono sub B1

That's why you needed six mono amps?

Nice Gian, I fear I never really got the best out my IMF RSPMs which were MkViis.

They had a ferrofluid tweeter (from memory) and still used the Kef drivers also used in the big Linn Isobariks which I also fancied back in the day, them and Tympanis ofcourse.

Wish I had kept them now but as always the young are always looking towards ‘the next’ rather than looking to towards the future.

That said I have a real weakness for speakers and would have a house full of them... which is clearly an issue for me lol.

Funny most people are going forward to the "next" modern. But I actually want to go backward on speakers. I dont have a housefull of them. Yet I wish I have a big loft to keep a housefull of them toward the future.

Ah yes, the great vintage valves and vintage horns still hold much allure and magic especially. In a perfect world all those who want could all own Bionors and WE. Sigh.

These days I do rather like my valves big n meaty to happily fill the room with light, heat and music... multi-functioning full sound, lighting and heating systems. Perfection.

At the end we always end up at the beginning.
