Agree on the Amperex 211 tubes. I have tried many NOS tubes and found the Amperex to be the best. If buying new, consider the Elrog 242 (if you can find them), or the new Psvane 242's. I'm running the Amperex in my Air Tight 211 mono's, with the Air Tight ATE 2001 for a pre amp, Horning...
Mine are extremely quiet. Using with Horning (99db) and Zingali (98db) speakers. Your Altec's are a bit more sensitive, but I have not had an issue with background noise. Dead quiet. Using Air tight ATE 2001 pre.
I recently was able to obtain 4 sets (8 tubes) Amperex 211 brass base vacuum tubes. All tested essentially 100-105 % NOS with a plate voltage of 600V. So they all pretty much match. Not that I care that much. I am running Air Tight 211 mono blocks, so I'm not much concerned if they exactly...
I have a set of the Audio Note 242's as well. I think that they are great for new, and beat the Elrog's, but the nos Amperex still better.
I have tried: Elrog 211 (old version) Elrog 211 (new version) Elrog 242's, nos GE, nos RCA, and nos Amperex (brass). It's close and subjective, but I would...
I to own the Air Tight 211 monoblocks. I was running the Elrog 242's, which I really liked. Upgraded to NOS RCA's, and finally scored NOS Amperex.Amperex has been the best in my system. From those that I have talked to, most have preferred the Amperex over United. My two cents. WE I have not heard.
Since no one else seems to support Air Tight, I will. Yes buy those big AT 3211's!. I have the smaller ATM 211 mono blocs, and the Air Tight 300b Anniversary amp, both running through the Air Tight ATE 2001 reference pre amp. Just love their stuff. Underappreciated and underrepresented on most...
I own both the Air Tight 300B Anniversary amp (not the 300R) and the Air Tight 211 monoblocks (not the 2211). Both are SET, at 9 and 22 Watts, channel respectively. And yes, contrary to what you might read, the 300 Anniversary has 9 watts/channel like the 300 R. I alternate both between ESL...
Recently replaced the Elrog 211 tubes in my ATM 211 mono blocks with Elrog 242’s (WE replica), just outstanding. I couldn’t find the NOS WE tubes. Feel lucky to get the Elrog 242’s.i think only 40 of these tubes made so far.
now with Kef ref 3 speakers, Air tight ATC 5, Air tight ATH 2a SUT, SME...
So..., l put the Quads in storage for now. I was lucky to obtain a set of Horning Euphrodites.
Just amazing with the 211 mono blocks. My only gripe with the Quads was the narrow sound stage. Essentially a “one person speaker”. But what a good listen for that person!,
Everyone else, well, not so much
Should sound wonderful. I use my 300B for a small set of Air Tight Monitors, and the 211 monoblocks for a set of ESL 57's, totally and beautifully restored by Quads unlimited. Interested how your Tannoy's will sound. I may head that way as well.
I have 3 Air Tight amps. the ATM 2, the 300B anniversary amp, and the 211 mono blocks. The 211 mono blocks are superb. 23 watts of SET power. Extremely clean, dyanamic, and all the superlatives. Just really, really good. However, tubes for this amp are limited, and the amps themselves are really...
I recently purchased a pair of Air Tight ATM 211 monoblocks on Audiogon for 6700.00 I had been looking for years. They do not come up often in the used market in the USA. Well worth the wait. And quite a deal.
