My Horizon should arrive in the next few weeks and I'm just now (quite late) thinking about tubes. I ordered adapters for 6SN7 tubes but I'm not sure if I need adapters for KT170's or for the Tak 274B. If I do need adapters would someone please point me to the correct items?
Also, can someone recommend a reliable seller of the Tung Sol 6SN7GT or Sylvania 6SN7W Metal base, as well as the Tung Sol KT170?

thanks!

Contact Woo Audio for the adapters. Mike is a great guy and quality personified.

You don’t need adapters for 6SN7s and you don’t need adapters for KT170s either.

The round plate Tung Sols have few sellers at this point. Same with the Sylvanias. They are many other 6SN7s that are very worthy and should be considered.

Has any of the Pacific to Horizon converts also the impression that the rectifier tubes get quite a bit warmer in the Horizon than in the Pacific?

I've taken a bit of a shortcut to find a really great set of tubes for my new Horizon. I spent the past four hours in listening bliss - a significant (big) step up from the stock tubes. new TS KT170, new Tak 274b (found yesterday -brand new still sealed on ebay 8 miles from my house), old (1942) Tung Sol 6SN7GT. Thanks to the thread for helping me take the shortcut and especially to my old tape buddies DM and SW.

Related to KT90 availability - I've checked via my friends in Serbia and we managed to dig out a name of a person who bought entire stock of EI NIS tubes when they've been closing the factory. He sold all the tubes back in 2014 and kept only few pairs for his amps. Trying to check with few more guys but seems like they will appear left/right/center on eBay from time to time...

Count me as another vote for the TS 6SN7 BGRP having gorgeous sound. I have also been very impressed with some top 6922 variants, including Philips Miniwatt SQ 7308 and Siemens CCa.

FWIW, and in light of Lampizator’s new standard tube package it’s worth something, the JJ Blue Glass KT 88s are sounding pretty darn good. I had ordered them before Lukasz announced that JJ KT 88s would ship with the H DAC. Once they are broken in, I will compare directly with the TS KT 170.

Is there a difference in SQ between the VT-231 and other?

They may sound different but they don't necessarily sound better.

There are a bunch of variations with the Tung Sol round plate tubes. For example, some have copper pins at the top and some have steel. Some have oval mica and some round. They all sound a little different but I wouldn't sweat the differences.

i have to admit that David convinced as to how really good the TS 6SN7 is I bought 2 back up sets just in case
Everyone’s thoughts on the TS 6SN7 are interesting as I found the 6sl7 equivalent, the TS Blackglass 6SU7 GTY, as the most musical in my Manley preamp. The RCA red base 5691 was a close second.

Has anyone tried the 6SN7 equivalent RCA red base 5692?
