Best of the best - made in Serbia
Crap - price skyrocketed after this post....lemme trigger my local connections in Nis (city in Serbia where the factory WAS):D
I rest my case. I remain convinced that mentioning any ideal tube in this thread quickly causes a rise in the cost of the tube if not making it disappear almost immediately. You my friend are one of the reasons and have created the circle of inner trust. Reminds me of Maxwell Smart and his Cone of Silence :D

Please start saying nice things about the famous MOV (Marconi-Osram Valve) KT88 ...

I just spent half day drooling over the new tube set - the power pentodes called Ei-KT90. They were made in Serbia and sold under Telefunken name. The local brand name was Ei. They are phenomenal. In my Horizon test they beat the GEC Marconi KT66's and match equal the Tung-Sol KT170 (which is blood stained Russian item). If only they werent so expensive. I tried them with VT-99 inputs, French 5687's, and Blue Balls. All were equally good. View attachment 94822

Lukasz, I actually have quite a number of these Ei KT-90's that I hoarded in the 00's when I was enamored with an EAR 590 power amp that operated with eight. I have a couple of sets that got tired enough that I retired them, but they test ~80%. In your estimation, would they work OK in the Horizon?

I do have a fresh set that I was planning to try in my Horizon, once I get it......

Do the Serbian tubes need adapters?

Wish that were true of my Pacific. This is a DHT tube eater. Burned through 6 tubes in 6 months! Heard horror stories about Jadis power amplifiers, but didn’t expect that from a tube DAC.
Which tubes and heater settings?

Hmm.. keeping my score card of dead tubes handy, here’s the tally:

1. KR 242 (first set died, second set seems to be holding up so far).
2. KR T-100 (one tube died within a few hours of being fired).
3. PSVane 101D (new set, one died within a few hours)
4. VAIC 45 (two tubes died, two survived, seller took them back)
5. NOS 45 (two died, rest are doing ok so far)

It is not a pretty picture. If I didn’t like the Pacific so much, I’d have thrown in the towel. 300Bs are doing fine so far, PX 25s are also doing fine.
