OK just had a conversation with Roon and you can not roll back to a previous version. The Roon backup that takes place only backs up the database and not the server software. There is no provision for backing up the server software.

Thats very interesting if successful. I dumped Roon several years ago and have never looked back

I have an LDMS server I want to transistion from Roon. Lucas is working on some software so I'm waiting for him.

The server in my second system is a Roon Nucleus+ clone (but faster) and Lucas said ti was locked down and he couldn't do much with it. I don't have crazy money into it, but between server, hard drives, shipping, upgraded LPS it's probably $2k and I don't want to just scrap it. That's why all my questions/conerns about Roon. On this second server I'm kind of stuck with it.

That's what I had been told. Having been involved with website/software development (design not coding) that's a really awful way to do it.

Yes I guess the simple solution is to provide a provision to also backup/restore the server SW along with the database.

exactly what I thought otherwise it would be known by everyone and there would be no more threads such as this one

You could be right. I know reverting is very difficult if at all possible. I don't think I have a back to restore pre 913 but if you're correct I could make one for 913 to potentially restore.
Talk to LD about Squeezelite as a roon output engine ;)

I would be happy to install Squeezelite. I am just software saavy enough to be dangerous. If someone could tell me what to do or how to find directions I would purchase it. Lucas D. looked at my 2nd server for me (via Anydesk) but couldn't figure out a way to get access to where he needed to on that server install HQPlayer.

I'm surprised he didn't suggest it when he connected to my other server to try and better optimize sound quality. He said the directories he needed were locked down and there wasn't much he could do. I appreciated him looking because it's my 2nd server, not the main server I purchased from him. I might upgrade the server he built for me which means I could trade that in or swap it for the second server I had built, but it's getting to the point where I have a lot of money sunk into a 2nd system where I have to sit 5 feet from the speakers. ;)

edit...I see where to turn on squeezelite in Roon and I set up again Zone for it but it won't output audio. The tracks don't seem to play so obviously I'm doing something wrong.

edit 2 - I think the issue is the roon core server doesn't have Squeezebox installed on it and I'm not sure how to do that over the network. I'm thinking I am going to have to hook this server up to a keyboard and monitor and install Squeezebox on it locally.

I think you might be able to downgrade to previous version if you have the full downloaded version of the previous release. I have not tested it but I have started downloading the full version just in case after the 918 upgrade but have not been able to keep up with the download since Roon seems to be releasing a new version on weekly basis.

I'm guessing Squeezebox needs to be installed on my server and I have no idea how to do that. I have the server connected to a monitor and a keyboard but there is no GUI at all. Just text that indicates Roon (core) is connected to my network. I figured at the very least there might be a CMD prompt. Squeezelite is enabled in my Roon settings but it obvious can't use it if the software isn't installed on my Roon server.

If anyone knows how to access the Roon server to install Squeezelite please DM me. I don't want to hijack this thread, but it's frustrating that there is a fix to Roon sound quality issues but I don't know how to deploy it.

Thanks.

I am assuming you have remote access via RDP/TeamViewer. I installed Squeezelite-x from Microsoft Store on my Win10 using RDP. You can also download the software from

Thanks but this might be beyond my capabilities. I know I can't use RDP because Roon Rock doens't use Windows, its a version of Linnux. I downloaded Team Viewer but I cant connect to the remote PC even though it's on my network. The server's builder said he's never used or installed Squeezebox and couldn't even tell me how I can add software to the Roon Rock server he built.

Not sure how Roon Rock is built but if you have another small system you could install win10 and squeezelite-x on it.

Edit: the other option that you have is to install Ropiee XL for Rasberry Pi4 to use as end point. @christoph runs that setup.
