Who is using the Lampi Pacific as a Pre-Amp? I have a Canary Audio C1800 Pre-Amp paired to Canary Grand Reference 300B mono amps.. I have not tried to run the Pacific directly to the Grand Reference until today. I was quite surprised by how good the sound was. I will soon be ordering a Horizon which I assume has a better Pre-amp in it. Maybe I can lessen some of the Horizon price pain and sell my Pre-amp.

I would love to hear from other Pacific owners. Are you using the Lampi as a Pre or another Pre-amp? What has been your experience?

I have the same question you raise, though I currently have the Golden Atlantic TRP. My user manual recommends SE connection direct to amplifier (and continues, saying the SE (contra balanced) is key to discerning SQ nuances when rolling. I did a trial run comparison with Pass Labs pre through bypass/unity gain SE input then to Lampi from preamp using balanced. I plan to dig out my shorting plugs for the Pass amp, then try SE to SE direct from the DAC. It would great to do without the preamp (though I miss features and flexibility I'd lose, such as left-right channel balance, and mono function (if, indeed, it is true mono).

The separate preamp has to be VERY good to even reach the level of the integrated preamp in the Lampi DAC, let alone surpass the Lampi, as you have found out with your Canary preamp.
I use my TRP directly into the Baby Kronzilla in my Apogee system and it sounds absolutely awesone. I will try it sometime soon with a preamp to compare, though.
