Alexx V arrive in NJ

Congratulations..... I think?

I feel your pain (pun intended maybe?) on the low feet. My fingers have been squished as well and I wondered about that design decision myself. I'm used to it now and rarely get caught but anyone new to this is going to feel the pinch.

Btw, none of my CH components have locking XLR inputs.

Increasing the gain on my M1.1s increases bass punch, perhaps try that? I run with ZERO global feedback as on the M1.1s you can only increase it in 10% increments and even with 10% it hardens the mids and treble. That said I have no issues with bass grip or authority with zero feedback, especially if I increase gain to +1.

Have fun. I would be one of those who say that the CH amps sound neither tube nor solid state (keeping in mind I've never heard the M10s) as I've never heard a tube amp as clean and a solid state as grain free. I don't get the same holographic soundstage with CH that I do with my CAT amps but it's a tradeoff I'll take for the clean and pure timbre of instruments, dynamics and ease of presentation.

I hope they satisfy you for years to come. I'm envious!
Strange. I have latch on all female XLR sockets in all my CH components.

+1 refreshingly honest and a genuine great read Marty and also with your comments Ian.

Hope this unfolds in a very good way Marty.

Congrats, Marty...that is huge news, and the M10s are surely in the pantheon of high end audio by the many accounts I have now read or heard directly from those who have heard and/or own them.

I look forward to hearing how they break in...and given their flexibility how you get on with the fine tuning within the amps...let alone outside the amps (isolation and/or power cables).

I am still getting to know the Robert Koda K160 monos, and I can certainly share that it is incredibly humbling and gratifying to hear the opus of some of the world's great and most committed and talented minds to great sound/music reproduction...something to such a level that the reproduction itself becomes its own artform in [arguably[ a comparable way a musician's own interpretation of a musical composition by a great composer brings its own form of artistry to the original music. So too can there be true artistry in the way that the entire production is then brought home to you in the sound system. There are many choices, many prioritizations of what makes for great sound, many technical decisions that need to integrate into a wider sound system...that is the art and the science of it all.

No doubt you are enjoying the work of a great master of high end audio. Enjoy.

Great news, Marty, congratulations. Are you considering the matching preamplifier?

+1... How often do we read of the Virtually Guaranteed *Main Lining Nirvana* epiphany from ones latest 5 digit out of the box piece of gear, tho I have been around enough CH gear to be confident , with a little break in time, of a most happy new owner indeed. Wish you joy of your new electronics Marty.

"4 digit out of the box".
My goodness, 4 digits? If only that were true! o_O

Marty, instead of premature congratulations intruding on a temperamental reception. I'll wish you the best of luck the CH fulfill your needs going forwards some years.

If for any reason you require shifting any of the four chassis, ever. Allow me to suggest use of professional lifting straps which are adjustable and configurable. Particularly the upper body harness variety allowing physical contact by four hands at all times. The use of cardboard packaging seems highly possible it is related to removal for installation in this manner.

It nearly was. ;)

Francisco, I have zero interest in their (or any other) pre-amp at this time. I'm quite content using the superb Soulution 725. All gear has a sound. For me, the key to the most satisfactory long term listening is synergy among the components. There is something very compelling about the sound of the Soulution 725 that is attractive (in addition to the fact that, unlike the 701's, it doesn't break!). Their approach towards using local feedback judiciously applied with great speed results in ultra low distortion which is their calling card. Distortion matters and the ultra low nature of the distortion the 725 produces allows for a sound with excellent musicality and a palpable reality on some material that can be astonishing. That's just a fancy way of saying I like how it sounds but also, that it seems to have a synergy with all the other components of my system such that it rings my chimes. As they say, if it ain't broken, don't fix it.

Great. I think you always wanted the CH ever since you heard them in Milan at Gian's. His friend Marco later added them to the Alexandria X2S2

The low distortion of the Soulution preamp is so audible when you replace another preamp. The noise floor goes down and dynamic range goes up with the Soulution. It also works great with valve power amps.

Solid state has come a long way. My Spectral preamp and amp sound like the source. I would really like to try Soulution if the finances worked out.

I would love to compare spectral, Soulution, Dartzeel and CH preamps into a valve power amp. You can look at an used 720. I have compared to the 725, the 720 is fine

7 months to get some amplifiers? I can get a GT3 quicker!
Maybe CH needs to look at their production capability? Add that to looking into their industrial design choices?

In any case looking forward to break-in reports from Marty.....

The pandemic is affecting production supply lines everywhere. My L10 was delayed at one point because of this. Worth waiting for though!

Congratulations, Marty! I am very happy for you that you have incorporated these monsters into the system!

May they be completely reliable, and give you years of musical bliss!

It’s all about the bass….

Some fine details are worth noting. First, I turn the ELF control (effects frequencies under 15 Hz) to its minimal setting. I really don’t care much about information below 15Hz and a minimal setting here actually sounds cleaner than any other setting. (i.e., it’s a familiar “less is more” phenomenon). Second, I do not use the DSP program at all. In the past, I found it useful if one is crossing over at a point that is in the 60-80 Hz range, as JL recommends. However, in my case, I am crossing over at the lowest point possible which I estimate is 22-25 Hz (the lowest frequency crossover point is not clearly marked on the controls). Keep in mind that just because the crossover is set to 25Hz does not mean that is the only frequency (and below) where the sub is operative. Rather, the crossover point is a -24dB point, so in fact it does have significant output that reaches well into the 30+Hz range. Therefore, it is a mistake to say the sub only works at 22-25Hz and below. This is not true at all, even though that is indeed the crossover point. (Amazing to me how many people don’t understand this). This of course is what makes blending the output with a full range speaker so challenging. It is also why the most important controls to adjust for blending the subs and mains are obviously the volume and the phase control. It is the setting of the phase control that is the key to making the sub integration as seamless as possible.

RIGHT SUB SETTINGS FOR JL GOTHAM V2

Congrats again on your speakers and sub integration. With the size of your room mains and subs integration along with full range bass extension and accuracy should be relatively simple. Also, FYI the JLA Gotham ELF trim setting affects frequencies not at 15Hz as you stated but at 24Hz where when set at minimal level cuts by 12 dB.

Also, having experimented with F110s, F112s and F113s via JLA's low input you might want to consider implementing high to low output converters such as from Jensen which when connected to an amplifier output yielded better sub to mains integration and more "of one cloth" bass and mid - bass. As I'm sure you know this is how REL feeds their subs.
