Coronavirus ...

Seems high, but yes I do support containment, but don't support the panic or meaningless posturing I see like spraying street signs that no one touches, for example.

That is in Iran Norm, other countries they don't disinfect street signs above their heads.
Here we limit toilet paper in Costco stores.

Right now Italy is high on the list of serious measures. Iran too, even disinfecting high street signs ...

The aviation industry is not healthy, OPEC is losing some marbles, Russia we know nothing, and yes we should be careful with door knobs and handrails from escalators.
That virus can stick to surfaces up to nine days...metal, plastic, wood, etc.

A disturbing fact: on Feb the 20th, there were 3 coronavirus cases in Italy. Now they have close to 8000.

No I didn't; I posted that outside China the death rate was about 1.4%, and most experts now predict that the US death rate will be under 1%. Italy's experience may change that prediction, of course.

Italy will likely experience a higher rate because of the age of their population, which is the 2nd highest in the world after Japan.

Feel bad for Gian. Cant go out read newspaper, cheek kissing, mingle with ladies at coffee shop in the morning now.

Kidding aside. Pls stay clean avoid public contact keep yourself healthy. Don't be irresponsible. This thing will feel much closer more threatening to us when we hear someone we know on this forum is fighting his life against it now.

Actually very few diseases are as contagious as the common cold or influenza, and MRSA colonization of the general population in the US is quite high (~20%); nevertheless, very few otherwise healthy people die from those conditions (just as with CoVid19). I am not the ignorant one here.

Don't misunderstand, this is definitely a serious situation, but it doesn't appear to be another SARS or Ebola, probably not even as bad as a serious influenza epidemic, and we definitely need more information. But the panic that has ensued is way disproportionate to the actual health threat.
this a classic strawman argument. Asssign your opponent an extreme posotion and force him to defend it.

Many factors make this virus pernicous is its ability is to be transported through air by an asymptomatic carrier.
I suppose you also doubt climate science?

How many of us are over 80? that seems to be the start age for it to be anything more than the " Flu "

All our Moms and Dads, and several members here are in their seventies.
That's a lot of people directly blood related right here @ home.

But it's NOT just about age.

Well, of course there weren't actually 3, just 3 confirmed. Italy has been complacent until now and they are paying the price. Good luck to them.

Problem with these pepetuated stats is they are often completely wrong. I worked on H5N1 avian flu for more than a decade just so you know where I am coming from. I am under no illusion though, that Covid-19 will have a serious effect. My kids have not been to school since January...

Reports here in the UK are that the situation in Seattle is not looking good and that more gernerally in the USA the shortage of testing kits is causing real problems.
Here in the UK deaths now 3 and no. of cases up by another 47 to 275.
Good support for the Govt at the moment but I would be surprised if the US Govt doeas not come under increasing criticism unless they do more.
I am not seeking to score points or to be partisan but reflecting what it looks like here.

Maybe we should ask one of our members living in Seattle what actually is happening in Seattle.

After living in London for two years (2015 and 2016) I developed no respect for the accuracy of English reporting about matters in the United States.

Thank goodness I am a Gen X.

Hundred years ago (Spanish flu), nobody knows exactly how many died...20, 50, 100 million.
Fast forward today, nobody knows exactly how many are infected right now and how many will die.

All that we know is that the world health scientists are not taking this lightly, and neither the world markets, the oil industry, the aviation industry, the cruise ship industry, ...the industrial world.
Numbers are tough to evaluate when a virus doesn't always show symptoms, people cannot be tested, when we are passed the containment phase, when we are in uncharted territory.

So I agree 100% with you that those stats are wrong, far from being accurate...the number of people being infected worldwide and each individual country. They are probably higher than lower; not lower...impossible.
We do what we can, we wash our hands.

I made that post sitting right there in the grandstands during the race at Phoenix Speedway.

It did cross my mind. Thank god we are not in the situation where Italy is @ now.

Watch the US stock markets react tomorrow to OPEC, all the world markets starting today in Asia.
Gold is good.

It can get quite severe for those who have weak lungs, asthma, type issues irrespective of age
