A death rate which varies by known factors is meaningless as one consolidated number.

Most people want to know the death rate so they can figure out what their (and their loved one’s) risks are. If the rate varies by age, which is the case with the coronavirus, it is good to know the rate by age.

The North Italy quarantine is more than a week old! What you report is an extension to Milan. All Swiss who travelled there in the last month are asked to so self quarantine. I know of 2 people at work out for 2 weeks as a precaution.

Door handles at work are being wiped down 3-4 times a day.

They even disinfect the signs ...

People spraying all that toxic fumes can't be good for them or bystanders...its actually ridiculous. They need to wipe down handles and rails, etc. Spraying toxic chemicals everywhere is actually harmful is really bad for pneumonia patients.

Reports here in the UK are that the situation in Seattle is not looking good and that more gernerally in the USA the shortage of testing kits is causing real problems.
Here in the UK deaths now 3 and no. of cases up by another 47 to 275.
Good support for the Govt at the moment but I would be surprised if the US Govt doeas not come under increasing criticism unless they do more.
I am not seeking to score points or to be partisan but reflecting what it looks like here.

Barry, do you have the UK flu stats handy as well? Guaranteed they are waaaaaay higher and its a bad flu this year.

I don't know the very latest figures but AFAIK they are in line with earlier figures of 17,000 deaths per annum.
I understand the implied point you are making but that doesn't alter the seriusness of the Covid 19 problems. There are reliable reports that the Government's medical experts have concluded that around 100,000 deaths from Covid 19 is an entirely credible scenario.

We all should use common sense.
The trick to stop speed is to avoid the virus getting on hands, so focus on high touch areas in public places. Rails, handles, public transportation poles, anything many people touch in hospitals. Bank/credit card machines, etc.

This is what the germ fighters in the last epidemics told us and what UK studies confirm...

Seems high, but yes I do support containment, but don't support the panic or meaningless posturing I see like spraying street signs that no one touches, for example.

Barry, the situation is accelerating @ many places/countries/regions from across the globe, as we all know very well by now. Even here where I live, across Vancouver and Seattle.
All I can do personally is wash my hands, and see the numbers rising around me and everywhere.
I rely 100% on world health scientists and zero in nobody else; people who are not living reality.

Stay well and aware like you already are.
