she represents a younger generation and she is still developing her style, and seeking to Answer set up questions about her video microphone placement etc

i have found her videos very enjoyable with good sound quality, hence why I was surprised at the issues with this loaded video and I believe an explanation has been given

and Ked, seriously your videos are really very bad, not claiming mine are much better, and it’s actually not that easy to do well I have discovered so kudos to Jana for trying to lift the quality , of Hifi videos , just this one didn’t do the system justice imho

and there was no talking in the background or lolly wrappers crinkling

I do enjoy her videos too. It is refreshing to see her present the video differently from others. Just that something was not right about this video recording of Billy's system. I mentioned the bass and the woosh (bass reverb) sound that could come from anything...maybe Alfredo or position of Alfredo in the room...maybe even because I am used too with the no bass of my system. Anyway, Jana production is way beyond my ability and I trust people of this generation never stop advancing.

its her style, and she does play music actually
to my mind she is trying to set a certain video standard of how she presents the system
at least she has a standard, which is about a 1000% better than what I can do
just showing this system playing isn’t really entertainment Unless it has some context imho I have watched a few of these and I am always left wondering what I was listening too etc
compared to poor old Peter it’s 10x classier video seriously and at least she doesn’t say “ by gosh” or “ Lorde” at the end
or the “ speakers and the amplifiers make a perfect handshake” she renders no opinion but the sound in the video and the equipment run thru she does without sound but captions very classy ...

Hi all,
I wanted to reach out to all whom I had the opportunity to meet in Munich. The joy, verve and passion of those in audio is such a wonder. Thankyou to everyone I was blessed enough to encounter. I wanted to add a couple of the most recent photos of my room including David K’s Nothing racks. The center rack and components weigh View attachment 53174 View attachment 53175 over a ton. Sometimes building a system is like wondering in the wilderness. I made some expensive errors in modifying my room but recently I have encountered several possible solutions to my problem that do not require an entire rebuild.

I'll be interested in knowing what solution you decide to go with. I'd also like to know more about what was done to your ceiling and why it didn't work.

I should note that I find the room's acoustic treatments very nice and interesting, however in one shot we get to see what the ceiling is doing near the front wall where the speakers and equipment are located.

DO NOT DO THIS - EVER!

The sloped ceiling with an acute angle vertical ceiling raise is a big no-no.

Before I was registered I worked in a large architectural firm, in the design department. The head designer and I worked side by side, he went to the meetings, I did most of the work.

So frustrated by one of his designs for a church that I came in on the weekend and built two rough simple models. One model of his design with a step in the ceiling/roof that reflected sound back into the balcony and rear wall, and another that resolved this issue with a simple cathedral ceiling that was actually simpler to build (and looked better in my opinion).

He came back from a meeting and said the church committee liked his original concept with the ceiling step/raise, and so that is what was built.

The church's acoustics were extra terrible, I mean normally we used acoustic engineers as consultants but they could not fix the problem created. And active sound system with delays and corrections at great cost had to be installed.

A year later I was cleaning out my cube and asked the head designer if he wanted the models, and confessed that he should has listened to me, he pushed his original design and disregarded my warnings - it was not the first church either one of us had done, but somehow we just knew different things.

Design is about making decisions, and to make a decision one needs a choice.

This is why we produce multiple schemes.

Some people just make bad choices, I see it all the time.

A lot of good choices made with the above stereo system, the room and it's ceiling are not on the list in my opinion. That ceiling and reducting of HVAC grilles could have been changed very easily.

If I were to spend that kind of money the room would come first, and I don't think that I'm saying that just because I'm an architect, I'm saying that as an audiophile.

The remarks about the microphone set-up, position and location only solidifies my opinion.

Personally i struggle with the conflict between wanting my system to have a solid wall behind the speakers, for acoustic reasons, and wanting to look out of the window onto my garden as i listen.
I ended adding subwoofers to compensate for the loss of bass so that i can enjoy a view of nature as i listen while looking out the window. At night i have heavy curtains that restore the heft, but if the moon's up I'm conflicted again between the visual and aural

I think most of us have the same internal struggle.

It pained me to see one man's home destroyed by an acoustic engineer, the wonderful view completely covered over.

What I plan to do in the next year and hope to post it in the forum is a front wall unlike anything I've seen before.

Imagine a front wall with a big window or flat TV in the middle, a common situation, yes?

I want to install a pair of barn door style tracks to the ceiling and in lieu of installing barn door I will install a hanging lattice of 2"x2" grid.

Upon that grid I will bolt these beautiful bright red cigar boxes I've collected (approx 8"w x 8"l x 5"d). I will pre-drill the back of the boxes with several holes of various diameters and fill the box cavity with mineral wool insulation. The boxes will have an inch or two of air along their sides and top/bottom (suspended upon the grid) but still be about a foot in front of the front wall..

The idea is the front of the boxes (they have rounded shoulders) will act as a diffusion grind, as I may stagger the depth with spacers/wood blocks on the back.

The wall of boxes will also act as absorbers for sound waves going between the boxes and hitting the wall/glass/TV on the front wall behind them. The sound should bounce back, going into the back of the boxes, each acting as a sound trap.

The staggered grid of cigar boxes mounted on a lattice grid can slide right and left so the window or TV can be viewed. The width of each "door" and how they slide pass each other has not been worked out in detail yet as there are other things in the room I am still working on.

I really do like the rooms of others I've seen that were blocks/strips of thick wood staggered, yet could slide R&L so that a hidden TV could be viewed.

My concept is a little different in that there is a level of transparency in between the cigar boxes that does not 100% cut off all light and view.

We will see, so many other things to work on and that have priority.
