True Detective: Official Trailer (HBO)

The lives of two detectives, Rust Cohle (Matthew McConaughey) and Martin Hart (Woody Harrelson), become entangled during a 17-year hunt for a serial killer in Louisiana.

Season 1 starts Jan. 12, 2014

totally agree

HBO for the best of everything on TV

Watched the first episode. I know it is serious, but they kept me laughing, anyway. The nihilist, depressed, drug/alcohol ambivalent Cohie is priceless. So far, Woody is the straight man. Just watching McConaughey stare bummed out into space is fun.

Photography is nice, manages to catch in a sparing way the humid tapestry of the area.

It started a little slow for me but I'm really enjoying it now. Problem is, I think I read somewhere that there's only going to be 8 episodes for the season so I think that leaves us with only 3 more.

I found Episode 4 pretty wrenching and unexpectedly exciting. Incredibly scary compared to the previous procedural type repartee. Haven't been that scared since the movie "Training Day" when Denzel leaves Ethan Hawke stoned in the ghetto to be parted out by bangers.

Other than Breaking Bad, this is one of the best shows I've ever seen. The bar was set so high in season one that I'm prepared for immense disappointment in season two--hope I'm wrong!

True Detective Season 2: Trailer (HBO)

Two episodes of the second season out already.
Different cast and setting but it's going to be another great season I think.

This guy was killed last week...at least it looked that way.

It will be interesting how they explain it if he isn't dead.

I didn't like his character in the first two episodes but overall I like the storyline better than last year. We will see.

Perhaps he had a bullet proof vest on under his shirt...don't see any other way he could survive.

Can't believe I missed this the first go around. The trailers look good. But have not watched either season. Need to look them up on demand. Thanks guys.

Watched the 90 minute season finale last evening, turned out to be a continuation of this years train wreck. Vince Vaughn trying to act was painful to watch all season. Why did they add new characters in the last episode who were key to the plot? (was there a plot?) I want my 8 1/2 hours back!!

I liked the storyline but it needed to be more worked out and finetuned instead of trying to make it fit into 8 chaotic episodes, 13 would have been better.
I thought from the start that Vaughn, a bad comedy actor, was wrong for this but I was willing to give him a chance but what a mistake to cast him for this.
Harrelson and McConaughey are executive producers of this season but they better stick to acting than making decisions like this.

+1. and basically nothing mattered in the end.

Caspere's killer ended up not being important at all or even a real plot point. And the killer's storyline was almost impossible to understand. Does anyone really understand the 90s cop drama?

Yeah (I think lol) that I followed the concept of the 90s and the intertwined storylines of the killer and the city.
But for me I was very disappointed with the last episode, seemed a bit contrived for a series that is meant to be plot-character-circumstances heavy.
Some of the scenes just seemed to be written that way for the story or effect, and highly unlikely; like how did the cop know where Woodrugh would appear in the episode where he was down in the tunnels and ran away from the way he was brought in, or the scene when all of a sudden Ray Velcoro became clumsy in the scuffle at the store (last episode) that changed their options, or how they managed to find one of the main characters that was driving back through the city....
Really ruined it for me.
I thought Rachel McAdams was great though, nice to see her get a good character part rather than what she has to do in Sherlock Holmes.
I am going against the tide with this one it seems, I actually liked the way Vince Vaughn played his character, sorry all :)
Cheers
