Magico Q7

The market will eventually decide as it always does. What's disturbs me is this industry, at the "uber" end, is really becoming a "boutique / how much does your speaker" cost. How do you quantify a $45K mod within the context of musical enjoyment?

I agree with XV-1 regarding CJ. Another recent example is the new Esoteric K01X CDP. Priced $1K above the legacy model, which I just purchased at a reasonable discount.

Seems to me the runaway train is out of control but what do I know.

But keeping context Esoteric comparable product would be GRANDIOSO P1 Transport with GRANDIOSO D1.
Those are not cheap, the transport is nearly double the price of the K01X and without dac functionality.

Orb, you are correct. I'm talking same model with newest tech. Correction. I think the "X" is about $3K higher than the original.

Best.

Yeah appreciate that, just pointing out that SOTA statement model-price does not reflect top notch high end models, hence the big divergent between Esoteric high end K01X and their statement Grandioso (which is more in line with Magico Q7 concept).

Since the Q7 mk2 uses the same mid and tweeters as my Mproject,i have added the Sub Q18 to pair with my Mproject saves $$$ and am optimistic that the performance is pretty close to the Q7 mk2

Congrats!!! That is a BIG move! Literally!!! ;) Must be absolutely fantastic...have you setup the Q18? Would love to read your listening notes on how it changed the overall presentation.

Most particularly, i am intrigued about how the Q18 improves things vs other subs you might have tried in the past. specifically, i am trying to get some understanding about what happens between a Q18 and my current Velodyne DD18 when both would be playing only below 38hz-40hz or so. i have not got the room for a 2nd sub at the moment.

From time to time, i have been offered things like the mighty Krell MasterRef Sub...and started to pursue them, but at 500lbs...was not entirely sure i wanted to ship it 1,000 miles just to audition it. And i let it go (also due to age). Nevertheless, it is in the back of my mind...

My Mproject is being shipped over to me, as we speak and expected to be delivered to my home early next week..I have ordered the Sub Q18 and was informed by my dealer that will be delivered to me in early March.,will post when they are both in place.

Great! Thanks and look forward to it!

The press release on the Q7 Mk2 stated that it was using an improved version of the M-Project tweeter: "The Q7 Mk II incorporates a new, more efficient version of the 28mm tweeter found in the M-Project speaker".

I can't tell for sure but it also sounds like the midrange driver may be different. How much different these are - who knows.

Regardless, I don't think that diminishes the M-Project in any way and let me congratulate you on an EXCELLENT choice. I would love to have the Q18 myself and can't wait to hear what you think when you get either product.

Will do,once the Mproject and Q18 are in place.Thank you

The press release on the Q7 Mk2 stated that it was using an improved version of the M-Project tweeter:

Didn't they just release the "M" project with a new tweeter.

Now, within a very short time frame, it's new and improved?

I really don't get it.

So much for the shelf life of a Magico speaker.

Considering owners of the M will surely suffer from audiophilia nervosa, they will now never be able to fully enjoy their speaker (which has not even shipped yet) knowing they don't own the best tweeter in the lineup. May be an M MKII with the new tweeter is in the works? Must be fun to be head of product development and marketing at Magico.

you guys are just sh*t stirrers.

they said it was more efficient, not improved. 'improved' was Madfloyd's descriptor not Magico's.

my guess is that the modification to the new 'M' tweeter for the Q7 Mk2 has to do with compatibility with the Q7 Mk2 crossover and driver compliment and is not particularly an upgrade. it's simply a bit different. there might even be a trade-off involved to get the extra efficiency.

This raises the question; should R&D stop on components used in expensive top end products or continue and meaning any product sold is a stepping stone to further R&D?
I can see people being either side of that question.

Thanks for pointing that out, Mike. I honestly interpreted that as 'improved' but I guess it is referring to the fact that the Q7 is much more efficient than the M and that the tweeter had to be adjusted.

My bad, didn't mean to stir things up.

Excuse me. How do you know it's not an upgrade?

Does more efficient mean improved? I think so but I'm speculating, as are you.

Please chill out and stop being so myopic.
