Has anyone heard the Devialet D-Premier Integrated Amp/DAC

To be fair, the new Devialet range was "signalled" on a website and in HiFi News about a month before Munich, and you have only been able to get the new models one month post Munich. So effectively two months' notice not to buy a D-Premier if you wanted a 240 (or 170 or 110).

The somewhat reflective clarification by Devialet, that "I am ready to bet that very few people can make the difference between a D-Premier and a D240" hopefully nulls the initial bluster which gave the impression that the D-Premier was obsolete, which was always a complete nonsense.

The dealer in Oxford is still calling it " Radically Updated "

I don't remember where exactly I read about a sound problem on the analogue inputs (line and phono) with the new firmware 6.0.6

Can anybody confirm there is a problem with the sound being worse than before?

Maybe you mean this :

And there is an interaction between the Air module and the phono section :
music from a LP is suddenly muted and I need to cycle through all sources to hear again the music of the LP.
No such problem with the Wi-Fi module disabled.

But no sound quality issue

May well be so. Unfortunately I didn't take note of where I read this...

I understand that none of you have experienced any change to the worse with 6.0.6

I have reduced the volume of my sub by 2db, the new firmware or AIR does have a more bass heavy presentation and still more details in the mids. I like it more than the old version.

I agree the new version definitely sounds better, I feel it adresses some of the tiny issues people have had in the past with the sound being too mechanical.

New configurator doesn't work

Today I tried the new configurator for 6.0.6. Needless to say that it requires more steps than before due to the different models that all may have a different connection config.

I uploaded my settings file, but the configurator did not reflect its settings. So I needed to go through all steps. At the end I "saved as..." the config file, but what was saved was not a config "txt" file but the file "dp_cfg.txt.html" containing the text "Error: configuration file reading failed". It was not a config file.

Fortunately my old config files were not overwritten, even though I was asked if I wanted to overwrite it and I said yes.

Strange thing.

Right also. But in the end we will see by reviews, whether there are really no differences in sound using speaker A or B or not. If there shouldn´t be some - maybe due to additional differences in speed, current reserves for unhindered dynamics or distortion - they would have done a very bad job. For the purpose of what you mentioned for the 911. These other little differences in small features would not justifiy the price difference at all. I would be disappointed having bought a D-Premier and could have the same sound quality with a 170 (or even better) now for half of the price and less.

OK, the big Devialet is hand polished ;)

But there will be some commercial considerations in pricing. Including Air, in Euro '000, the prices for the 110, the 170 and the 240 are 6, 8 and 13, the D-Premier having been 12.

But if you are launching a new single product company, with no certainty over volume sales, you are going to have a different pricing approach than when you are launching three products within a successful company with strong volume expectations, particularly for the cheaper models. And you cannot price down the 240 if that might undermine the D-Premier.

I suspect it is a fine judgement more than a certain fixed percentage return for every product.

They could, but they don´t ;) But OK. No one expected that.

It would, if there were clear differences that could be considered to have influence on the final price.
But the price for the smaller ones is 5.000 and 7.000 Euros less than the price of the big boy. That´s a lot.

When there finally is no sound difference and no phono section needed, people might go for the little one only.
Not knowing what the sound is like with each of them, there should be very good arguments for 7.000 Euros more.

Actually I can´t see that much

Hopefully I can hear a Devialet 110 vs 240 with my speakers soon. It may save my expenses.
Or it will give me a good reason for spending a lot of more money.

I actually like the new configurator, it'll need some adjusting to if you're familiar with the original one but for new users I think it'll be easier and more straightforward to work with. By the way, if you are wondering (like I first did) how to change the name of an input, just click on it's name in 'Advanced Configuration'.

Around 15 minutes ago I received new beta's of both the firmware and AIR2 software. Will test these this weekend, I hope they've nailed it! :)

I can also not say much negative about the new configurator. It offers some new options for subwoofer configuration and looks better imho.
It's only different than the old one, but after some minutes of usage it gets familiar very quickly.

Good news, first tests of the new beta's are very promising! :) I have listened to music for more than three hours without one single hiccup, pop or click!! :) This evening I have only tested 44.1kHz/16 bit music played using iTunes and my iPad 3 as a remote. Tomorrow and/or on Sunday I will continue the testing but I will switch to J River Media Center 18 (and the JRemote on my iPad) which streams using WASAPI and at 24bit. All these on a Windows 8 64 bit PC. But I will also test Spotify, Youtube and XBMC on a Windows 7 64bit PC.

Yes, today it's working and also shows the uploaded settings of the old config file. The downloaded file is a real config and not an ".html". Maybe they were still working on the configurator when I tried it yesterday.

By the way Antoine did you also test Ethernet connection rather than WiFi ?

@Togil, I own the D-Premier which doesn't have the ethernet and USB connections like the new 110,170 and 240's have.

Have just tested Spotify as well. I've installed the official Spotify client on my "NAS" PC together with the Remoteless for Spotify helper program (http://remoteless.no). On my iPad I installed the Remoteless for Spotify app and it works perfectly!!

I had a listen to the D-Premier yesterday and it has caught my interest as I am in the market for a AMP.There is the option to buy the Demo D-Premier or wait for the Devialet 240 to come in.What would you D-Premier owners suggest??
Stump

I would say it depends on the price. If you like the color try to get the D-Premier for 'little' money. You can upgrade it later on this year. Could be kind of a bargain, when you get a good price.
