Star Wars Episode 7 -|- Release Date + Original Cast Returning

Big fan of the first trilogy (IV to VI) although I felt III kind of worked. May the casting Force be with Abrams. He did very well with Star Trek. Let's hope he can do it again for Star Wars.

-- Soooo, no Star Wars' fans here? ;)

Big Star Wars fan here, just not a huge fan of Episodes I - III (the latter was OK), and especially not a fan of Lucas' constant meddling with the movies on each re-release. Updating the effects I get and appreciate, but Han Solo not firing first is unforgivable! And the less said about Vader's "Nooooooooo!" in Episode VI, the better.

Somewhat a fan ... The Episodes from the late 70's to early 80's were OK and a good joy ride. But, the second you stop and think about the whole thing .. the less entertaining it becomes ... The whole empire soldiers with all that armor that get so easily killed with handguns .. or the differently colored lasers run a little thin after a while but .. I will still go see it .. I am Sci-Fi fan :) ... Not expecting the world though .. The Prequels have been consistently bad ... ( I saw them all :p )

I'm not a fan of Sci-Fi so I never got the attraction to this franchise (or any other). I will say that when Episode IV came out and I saw it in the theatre I was blown over by the effects. To this day it remains perhaps the most thrilling visual experience in movies I have ever seen.

I take it you haven't seen Avatar then ...

I did see that, but not in a theatre. I imagine it would have been pretty awesome though.

Yeah. The opening scene with the Star Destroyer coming in overhead was/is pretty awesome!

I look forward to the new one and happy to see the old cast there. The first star wars was the most incredible movie I had seen in my life. Wish Lucas had not ruined things with the last few installments.

Hmmmm, with the old cast (Hamill, Fisher and Ford) I am assuming that the story will be set in the future (far future unless they hire some seriously talented makeup people as all three are, ahhh, a little long in the tooth) and would maybe deal with Fisher and Ford's likely children. And, Luke is now a Jedi master perhaps with a new Jedi Academy....I will be VERY interested to see how this develops as I loved IV,V and VI and disliked to hated I, II and III....(well, my dislike deals with the young Anakin and Hayden Christensen)...

Cheers,

I saw Avatar in 3D IMAX and yes, it was visually the most impressive film I have seen to date.

Yes, most likely a sequel of the last prequel. :b ...Or, from the last sequel; Episode VI? ...Or III? ...I am so confused with all those Star War flicks!

* Avatar Episode II ('Avatar 2') is coming two. ...Prequel, or sequel? :D

I strongly suspect that Star Wars VII will take up where VI ended (the big celebration on Endor and all of the other places Lucas added later) though I would bet that that it is YEARS later....let's face it, I see no way for the makeup folks to make Hamill/Fisher/Ford look like they did at the end of VI.....it would seem logical to create a substantial story line that could happen years later (trouble in the restored republic, rouge Imperial elements, a new generations of Sith Lords, etc etc).....what is exciting for me is that JJ Abrams is doing the new series and since I absolutely loved his reboot of the Star Trek franchise, I suspect we will see something more in line with the initial three movies. I just hope that John Williams stays alive long enough to do the sound tracks for all three...

As far as Avatar goes, I would bet on a sequel, though what sort of story they would have is a tough one to call.....then again, the story for the first had holes in it big enough to drive a truck through.....I bet Avatar 2 will be another movie with staggeringly magnificent visuals though with less emphasis on the story.....just my opinion

Cheers,

True, Star Wars Episode VII will be the following of Episode VI - Return of the Jedi. And Ford/Fisher/Hamill will appear very old.

I have a new hope (pun intended) for this continuing/futuristic saga trilogy. ...JJ Abrams is good, and Disney is a much solider studio backup than FOX.

______________

Avatar 2 => Sequel for sure.

With all those aging actors, it's going to be "The Prune Juice Be With You" instead of "The Force Be With You."

Big Sci fi fan, but not a big Star Wars fan. The original trilogy is classic stuff, of course, but frankly I don't think it has aged very well. Everything since then has been pretty self-indulgent. Great Sci Fi fantasy on film? 2001. Alien. Blade Runner. The Minority Report. The Matrix. The Batman trilogy. The Hobbit, and, of course, the one trilogy to rule them all: LOTR. An awesome achievement that will be great 100 years from now.
