Eye Candy

Hi Dev, my answers behind your questions. very good MS combination!

1. Is that your 8000 also using the HS-80 flywheel? -yes[/I]
2. Why are you not just using another HS-80 instead of using the motor as with the 8000 set-up? -is also possible[/I]
3. Is the VPI that much better than the MS motor unit? I see it being used in both set-ups. -yes, more precise, more stable. [/I]
4. Are you using the special sewing thread? -yes[/I]
5. I see the tension being checked on the thread but how accurate is this really because how does one know how hard they are actually pulling? If one is off by a fraction will have an effect. -it seems to be quite stable, did the measurements many times to check[/I]
"After reading further I have answered my own question in relation to #5, great info thanks"

My table has the floating platter and arm board pods mod from Germany "same as Syntax" but my platter is a Stainless Steel. Do you have an opinion in relation to this. -should be fine, but I have no experience on the material of Syntax (should be also very good I heard!)

Hi airbearing, gorgeous set-ups! :) Thanks for taking the time to put that information together and providing such :)

Can you send me a link where can I purchase that same controller unit, do you know anyone possibly selling one?

I have my table and fly wheel placed upon a Minus K, controler on it's own. Looking at your pics I see with your 8000 you have them totally isolated from each other but not so with your 5000, using the controler as the fly wheel basically same set-up as mine.

Hi DEV, merci! I am using controllers, flywheels and tables separated for both Micros. On the image of the "brass Micro", which is a client demanded special SX 8000 II version, you may see a Micro platform on which controller and table are being placed. You can move controller and table closer or vice versa to each other when you trigger a knob at the Micro platform, in this way moving each of the two bases which are made of glass. If you are looking for an additional MS controller you may look at Topclassaudio in HKK.

I was actually looking for the same VPI SDS controller you have. Do you happen to have a link because when I went onto their site the unit is different, what is the specific model number. Thanks

I didn't see a VPI PLC in the picture but there's only one model of SDS, though it has changed slightly in looks over the years.

What I did see was the VPI motor drive system.

Rossner and Sohn.

They also make the MOTT - Mother of TurnTable.
Platter weights 235kg.

This puppy's platter weighs in at a cool 250 lbs :)

does this controller unit not come with the motor unit that is shown with both MS tables, the one I have provided appears to be allot smaller version than the ones shown or what am I actually looking at?

No the SDS is separate from the motor drive/flywheel assembly.

got it thanks, why can't I seem to find the drive/flywheeel unit as above that is with the MS but instead only the smaller one that I provided the pic of.

Myles would you or anyone else happen to have a link to this actual unit, I would like to purchase along with the SDS unit.

Thanks in advance

I can't either. Seems they redid the website and omitted it. Sites becoming way too complicated to find anything :(

I'm sure a call or email to HW will eliminate any confusion. I think the top motor waas made for the TNT and the one airbearing is using is the one developed for the HRX and the Scoutmaster series..

Although that's the rim drive. I'll bet the belt one is around. isn't this one it?

Hi DEV, I have been on the road. Yes this is the combo Whart showed you. I am using two SDS with the two VPI-HRX-T for my Micros. From my experience Harry Weissfeld did bring a controller unit on the market which is absolutely precise and stable and the technology it is offering for the money is very good. The big advantage you have when using the combination is also you are not dependant on voltage, you may run it with e.g. 240V. Elusive disc is delivering very fast. Good company!

Hi airbearing thanks for confirming such.

I do have a question for you, what is going to be the avantage using this over using my current MS controller unit because checking it's speed accuracy when using the Sutherland TimeLine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RF2XieUlzvk it's spot on no matter what, playing music, speed at both 33 or 45 to the point it's so accurate that the lazer point could burn a hole into the wall and does not wonder.

Which is also available at elusivedisc http://www.elusivedisc.com/SUTHERLAND-TIMELINE-STROBE-RECORD-WEIGHT/productinfo/SUTTIMELIN/

Just curious :)

Why not this? No fuss, no muss.

Hi Myles, very interesting.

My main inquiry to airbearing is what will I gain sonically by changing from my MS to this VPI system because currently I'm not having any speed issues what so ever. I can see using this set-up would have assisted with my prior TW Acustic Black Knight or AC3 tables which both had issues keeping an accurate speed.
