live, what state/city do most audiophiles live? I mainly stay in Memphis, tn but also have a place downtown Chicago

This is annecdotal and based on my used record purchases, 70% emanate from the East Coast. I'm in So. California and we purportedly have an audio society with the greatest membership in the US (LAOCAS). My gut tells me the participation isn't as strong as all of the clubs/societies combined that you have in the East. Within my very narrow preference for used collectable/audiophile records, East coast dealers have WAY more imports and scarce UK pressings for sale than you'll find out my way. I've also counted more high-end dealers in the East than here.

Wherever there is electricity?

for the USA/North America mostly near technical/high tech/finance and academic centers (leans toward white collar/technical) plus places people retire (baby boomer density) or where the incomes are a little higher. Even colder winter climates are a factor.....compared to more warm climates.

East Coast has population density, sure. But it's also strong in the other factors too.

World Wide it varies. Far East Asia it's mostly in dense city centers with small living spaces where it works, and lots of high tech. Europe in dense city areas too, but the other factors are at work there like the USA.

like any bell curve lots of exceptions. but mostly like that.

but really a multitude of drivers toward the hobby. some that could evolve toward less participation. decades from now will retirees do it as much? it's a question for North America especially.

Within my own experience, NY/NJ areas, Atlanta and surrounding areas, certain parts of CA, TX and WA state. Sprinkling elsewhere. This, within the Continental US.

Definitely NOT where I reside in Upstate SC, near Charlotte NC.

In the countryside, West Midlands England. Middle of no where with just one neighbour within 400 yards.

Central Wolverhampton?

I thought we all lived in caves. Mine is in N London suburbia. Only speak to neighbours when exchanging Amazon deliveries. They could be 400 miles away.

I live in a semi, but the party wall is lined with Acoustiwall and the window glass is -40dB, so I can still go pretty loud without bothering anyone.

I'm located east of Camelot but west of Bran Castle. Land of great chocolate, precision clocks, and ultra high end audio.

Happy Listening :)

greater middle tn area (but far, far away from Nashville; we got tired of that quick). Besides, I'm from the tri-state area originally (NY, NJ, PA (barely))

What makes living in Mid TN musically tolerable (30+ yrs, now) are "the interwebs" and "mail order". In all fairness, that's the real key. Once I discovered ordering from abroad (lps and/or gear), the world opened up. We can live where we want to live (which is right here) and still have access "to it all". I still have family back in the northeast, on the west coast even in the Hawaiian Islands so, I've got eyes in places I'm not.

If the average income is high and the weather is out right terrible for days or weeks on end, with a lot of darkness so even looking outside let alone going outside is not an option... Cold with little snow.... That's what makes music and a cozy fire and some excellent drinks with fine audio magical. So Boston which has technical types and is dark from OCT 31- March 20th, NYC with no decent skiing so people are inside almost all of inter, Minnesota (ever wonder why Audio Research, Magnepan, Bel Canto. If you ahve ever been to Bingingham NY in late fall and winter you'd understand how McIntosh came into being. Ever been to Denmark in winter? Scan Speak. How about Norway or Finland with its winter darkness? Tandberg, Genelec. The UK which had both great Valve manufacturers, bleak weather, horrible cusine, tech savvy people...QUAD, Harbeth, Wharfdale, Tannoy, Esoteric Audio Research, .

So Where are the great Miami Audiophile brands? There sure is enough white powder money there. Nothing out of the Hamptons. Or Louisiana Coast. Water sports, boats, girls in bikinis seems to correlate negatively with staying indoors and making audio gear.

I would say that is rather nice climate in areas of Vicenza, Bologna or Verona for example, home of Sonus Faber, Franco Serblin, Master Sound, Pathos, Unison Research and Viva Audio. Not bad weather either in Athens, home of Aries Cerat, or in Barcelona, home of Wadax...but, I would agree that audio is winter sport...aldo I swimm all year around in the sea, with no swimm suit, of course...

Small correction, home of Aries Cerat is Limassol
