Thanks for sharing the link - would have never found that. I love Boulder with magnepan and I know Dr. Roger West uses them to develop Soundlabs. Both of those are tough to drive and usually sound like a mushy mess without proper amps.

Hard to believe that guys that claim their basis for designing a system is listening to live music use such soft, syrupy amps on hard to drive speakers. Amazing how people’s “imagination of real” works. And interesting how tastes are set in this hobby.

And Guys who favor sealed box speakers like magico and YG are experientially impoverished when it comes to the proper bass/ rhythm foundation that Boulder and only Boulder can set for their musical enjoyment. We rarely see those guys using Boulder, likely due to dealer networks and how the stuff is sold. What a shame.

The best I have ever heard magnepan sound is with all Boulder - dac , preamp, and amps. Outside of a megnepan system and all MBL system, I have never heard an. SS preamp I enjoyed. They all sound analytical to me. I’m not willing to trade off emotion for extra resolution. I need some tubes in my system, but that’s my preference, and my preference only.

So if I get my hands on a Boulder for my stat and planar systems, I’d like to play around. But yes, for one of the best systems out there , like magnepan 30.7, all Boulder is the way to go.

I've had the VTL for a few weeks now and love the way it works with the Boulder. My only regret is I didn't have a 1110 to use in our comparison. Chuck offered to bring his over which I really look forward to when the world gets back on track.

I have YG speakers and the 1110 made an immediate improvement. With my YGs anyway, there was no tradeoff, both aspects got better. I look forward to trying the 1110 with Ken's Magicos.

BTW I think Boulder recently got a pair of YG Hailey 2.2 at their factory.

I am using a VAC Statement Preamp with my boulder 2160 and really enjoy the pairing.
