Looking for suggestions for around £2k (UK based) for a second hand phono stage. This would probably put things around £4k new in range. What's good at this price? I'm UK based so please be aware if you are suggesting items that are not available here...

Things like the ALLNIC H1202 are in range...

What do you think!?

Thanks

The Allnic is a good choice. Part of this is what type of sound you're looking for, cartridge matching, system matching etc. If you can find a used Nagra BPS, I'd add it to your list. https://6moons.com/audioreviews/nagra2/bps.html

It’s for a friend who’s just starting out. I would want separation of instruments, accurate decay and a wide soundstage. Warm or cold etc not important.
Deck is Rega P8 with Rega Apheta 3 MC.

Thanks!

In this case, I'd recommend one of the Rega phono stages. I suspect they'll match great and I'm guessing it's all designed as system.

See if you can get Misho's which is 4k Euro direct. No distribution costs. I have compared it to my allnic 7000 and a friend had it next to Thomas Mayer's (I didn't get to hear). But can say this is excellent and very flexible.

What about an EAR Yoshino 88PB or EAR 324, not so bad for the money.

Thanks all. If you’ve heard these against others it’d help. Why did you like them?

I just read the old one isn’t too good with MC and benefits from a SUT. Any direct experience of this one?

The 3000 and up are usually preferred direct

One way to look at the 88PB is that you don't need a preamp, so that saves money. The gain knob on the 88PB is an Alps pot which you can use as volume control. So cartridge -> 88PB -> amplifier. They pop up used in Europe from time to time.

So many suggestions! Thanks all

I can look at all of these, if they have “beaten” something else that’d be really helpful to know, or if you heard them what were they like?

cheers Tim
