It is interesting how an audio company has spun-off into an area unrelated to audio, at least in terms of sonics. Likewise it is interesting how an industrial company unrelated to audio has 'spun-on' its knowledge and manufacturing skill to high-end audio products.
What started with a heart specialist using his audio system's power distributor and power cables in his physiology lab led Caelin Gabriel of Shunyata Research to create a medical and science product division named
Clear Image Scientific. "CIS designs and manufactures noise-reduction products for scientific laboratories, heart surgery and all applications that require the highest resolution of low-level signals and images." Fancy cables saving lives?
Going the other way, a company (Performance Coatings and Consulting, Inc.) that specializes in solutions to medical imaging resolution problems (such as vibrations from external factors affecting computer tomography (CAT) image scanning) applies its materials science skill to produce vibration mitigation solutions for high-end audio products. A sister company (classified) works in the aerospace and military arenas to address noise and vibrational issues in fighter jets and nuclear submarines. The audio company is Silent Running Audio; its principal is Naval Officer Kevin Tellekamp.
