If you want to be queen you eed a kingdom and subjects. Billboard documents she has that.
She's a rock star. That is all I said.
If you are not a fan that is ok too.

Last OT reply.

ALL composers from ALL genre of music have used folk (aka as popular, also known as masses :D) into their repertoire. SO very often "crap" is included into Masterpieces.. that is what we call Talent or genius and they come from all places. There is no doubt in my mind that Biggie or Tupak Shakur are geniuses .. So were Charlie Parker, Charles Mingus, John Coltrane or Thelonious Monk and so were Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Satie, et all.

Hip-Hop has made its mark. Rap and Hip-hop are World-wide phenomenons. They have permeated everything from singing to fashion. Their influence is too entrenched in our lives to even be noticed. You may not like it , they're however omnipresent. They have influenced all music genres. From Jazz to , yes, Classical which has also influenced , yes, hip-hop. I find it interesting that the Pantheon of Classical Composers happen to be similar to that of the most sampled Composers by Hip-Hop artists

https://blog.whosampled.com/2014/08/13/top-10-most-sampled-classical-composers/

I'll make my last OT post short:

Omnipresent phenomena does NOT mean NOT crap.

OLd men look at me now, thankfully I'm nothing like you.

the granddad everything new is crap syndrome is alive and well. . . .

Luckily everything new isn't crap, but time will filter out the crap and leave what's good. Sometimes crap is allowed to survive, if for no other reason than to leave examples of it for future generations.

For the record, I'm neither old nor a granddad. I'm a cynic.

Of course the badesr b on the planet doesn't really care what grumpy old men think of her. Some things are rightly decided by popularity polls.. Popularity for instance.
I never said she was the best singer or musician. She is the cutest -sex-trash-talker since Grace Jones.

I pushed her latest album, ANTI, from Tidal into my library in Roon when it came out. Not a fan of all of the songs but these three are stand outs and I enjoy listening to them:

I think the first song on the album is very strong as well.

Thank you for posting those Youtubes of her songs.

Now I am completely convinced I never need to listen to another song of hers again!

If I didn't like some other singer, would you be as defensive?

For example, I LIKE Sarah Brightman. If you said she was the worst singer in the world and couldn't stand the sound of her voice I wouldn't care. It wouldn't upset me one bit and I'd accept your opinion and move on.

You seem to be taking this Rihanna thing personally.

Robyn Rihanna Fenty (/ri?æn?/ ree-AN-?),[2] (born February 20, 1988), better known as simply Rihanna, is a Barbadian singer and songwriter. Born in Saint Michael and raised in Bridgetown, she first entered the music industry by recording demo tapes under the direction of record producer Evan Rogers in 2003. She ultimately signed a recording contract with Def Jam Recordings after auditioning for its then-president, hip-hop producer and rapper Jay Z. Rihanna's first two studio albums Music of the Sun (2005) and A Girl Like Me (2006) charted on the top 10 of the U.S. Billboard 200 and respectively produced the singles "Pon de Replay" and "SOS".

She assumed creative control of her third studio album Good Girl Gone Bad (2007) and became a household name following the release of its international successful lead single "Umbrella". She followed it with five Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) platinum-certified albums, including the Grammy Award winner Unapologetic (2012) and her second Billboard 200 number-one album Anti (2016). Many of her songs rank among the world's best-selling singles of all time, including the singles "Umbrella", "Take a Bow", "Disturbia", "Only Girl (In the World)", "S&M", "We Found Love", "Diamonds" and "Stay" in which she is the lead artist, and her collaborations "Live Your Life" (with T.I.), "Love the Way You Lie" and "The Monster" (both with Eminem).

With sales exceeding 200 million records worldwide, Rihanna is one of the best-selling artists of all time. Rihanna is the youngest and fastest solo artist to earn fourteen number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100, and was named the Digital Songs Artist of the 2000s decade and the top Hot 100 artist of the 2010s decade by Billboard.[3][4][5] Among numerous awards and accolades, Rihanna has won eight Grammy Awards; eight American Music Awards; 23 Billboard Music Awards; two BRIT Awards; and was awarded the inaugural Icon Award at the American Music Awards of 2013. Widely recognized for frequently reinventing her style and image, she received the Fashion Icon lifetime achievement award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 2014. Forbes ranked Rihanna the fourth most powerful celebrity of 2012, and was named one of Time's 100 Most Influential People in the World later that year.
