In its newer SACD/CD players Esoteric is using new versions of VRDS Neo drives. I gather from your post that dCS specifically wanted to use a VOSP drive in their Rossini range (which they couldn't get), but still have the higher VMK drives.

It is my understanding that there are no drives available from Esoteric anymore. They have their own stock of VMK-3 drives (for Scarlatti/Vivaldi), which will let them manufacture transports for a few years (at todays demend numbers).

In the e-mail from dCS you quoted in post #33, Martin Rainolds said they would have used the VSOP drive for Rossini "if they could rely on the supply." I understand that he's talking about one particular Esoteric drive there. The question is, did they ask Esoteric about the drives that are currently in production?

And "if we could rely on the supply," is a rather vague way of putting it, does it mean that Esoteric discontinued their cheapest drive? or that they couldn't deliver the expected amount of drives due to demand from other manufacturers?

I'm not sure you can gain much by adding just a clock to the dCS Paganini DAC. External clock makes most sense when you want to use at least two boxes and eliminate interface jitter.

I anything, I would go the Scarlatti DAC instead (selling the Paganini DAC) or go with the U-clcok and use both as a clock and USB to SPDIF converter, with its clock link feature.

Long time Scarlatti and Puccini user here.

I got the chance to trade in the Paganini, put some money on top and buy a Scarlatti. This dealer also has an EMM labs dac2x. I am not exactly sure what to do, but go and listen can never hurt (except for my wallet)...
